About this deal

The HDMI port is another digital video port you can use to connect external display. It has very similar capabilities to the DisplayPort with few exceptions. However, the Dell OptiPlex 7000 Tower doesn't have one. This is not a problem if there is on-board DisplayPort. The Dell OptiPlex 7000 Tower supports Gen12 Intel Core technology. The 12th generation Intel Core processors were released in 2022. Named Alder Lake they use a hybrid between the Golden Cove and Gracemont architecture. The main differences to the previous generation, is the support for both DDR4-3200 and DDR5-4800 memory. The 12th gen comes with support for the new PCIe 5.0 bus, potentially increasing the bandwidth two times compared to the PCIe 4.0. First up is SPECworkstation 3, which is a specialized test designed for benchmarking the key aspects of workstation performance by using over 30 workloads to test CPU, graphics, I/O, and memory bandwidth. The workloads fall into seven broad categories: Media and Entertainment, Product Development, Life Sciences, Energy, Financial Services, General Operations, and GPU Compute. We listed the broad-category results which represent an average for all the individual workloads in each category. The DisplayPort (DP) is the most widely used digital interface for transmitting digital video and audio between display devices and PCs. It is good to see that the Dell OptiPlex 7000 Tower is featuring a DisplayPort 1.4a. The post version is important if you target higher resolutions with high refresh rate. Although, ver. 1.2 is completely fine for most users, if possible, aim for the higher versions DisplayPort.

With the lid popped off, you can see a lot of that heat is captured by the heatsink and forced out the rear exhaust vent. With the 12900K CPU being available as one step above the 12700K, we do expect that version to run slightly hotter. With the cooling system being larger in this system than that of a notebook there really shouldn’t be a concern. Faster RAM speeds permit your processor to access the data stored inside the memory faster. This is important for the overall speed of your system. Dell OptiPlex 7000 Tower has four RAM slots and supports dual channel memory configuration. This is sufficient for almost any use case and especially in situations where the workload calls for more RAM.Although far from apples-to-apples comparable, the OptiPlex 7000 Micro will face the HP Z2 Mini G9 mini-workstation in our testing, being one of the only other mini-PCs we’ve tested. Micro is an understatement describing the OptiPlex 7000 Micro – it’s barely wider than an SD card. It’s Dell’s smallest business desktop at just 7.2 by 1.4 by 7 inches (HWD) and a mere 2.1 pounds. A dedicated graphics card is the main concession when going to a desktop this small; the OptiPlex 7000 Micro uses Intel integrated graphics in all configurations. Dell’s smallest desktop with dedicated graphics is the Precision 3460 Small Form Factor. The Dell OptiPlex 7000 Tower comes with ten USB ports in total. Having more USB ports is always better, but also pay attention to the version of those USB ports. Higher version ports support faster transfer speeds. It is nice to see that the model has a USB 3.1 port. This interface is using 10Gb/s connection and it's very useful when you transfer big files to external drives. Video ports to install aftermarket PSUs to support better GPUs. You can also find that there is space constrains inside the chassis, making it difficult to accommodete larger GPU to boost the gaming performance.

However, keep in mind that the type of GPU you can install will depend on the available space in the chassis and the PSU power rating. Bluetooth module. It is small circuit board that is designed to fit into a dedicated slot on the motherboard. You can upgrade Dell OptiPlex 7000 Tower with a full size GPU. Models like NVIDIA GTX 1660 or GTX 1650 Super are good and safe upgrade option and will work with most Mini Tower form factor. In graphics testing, the OptiPlex 7440 performed decently, but was mostly beaten by other all-in-one PCs. On the 3DMark Cloud Gate test, using medium settings, the desktop scored 6,441—by no means a bad result, but other desktops, such as the HP Sprout (9,390), performed better. On the Heaven test, the OptiPlex 7440 similarly managed an okay 20 frames per second (fps) on medium settings, the same as the Lenovo ThinkCentre E93z (20fps), but still fell far short of the impressive 62fps of the Apple iMac with Retina 5K Display. Graphics capabilities are usually a secondary consideration in business settings, however, so don't let these results put you off if you need an all-in-one for other uses.PerformanceThe OptiPlex 7440's 3.3GHz Intel Core i5-6600 processor and integrated Intel HD Graphics 530 combine to give the desktop solid performance overall. On the PCMark 8 Work Conventional test, which tests a system's ability to handle day-to-day computing tasks, the OptiPlex 7440 scored a solid 2,911. That's a little behind the HP Sprout (3,381) and the OptiPlex 9030 Touch (3,150), though not enough to make much of a difference. The OptiPlex 7000 Micro is the slower of the two, of course, but it still produced decent numbers. It didn’t complete the GPU Compute test; its integrated graphics just aren’t designed for that workload. The HP also didn’t complete that test, but likely for different reasons. To cover the needs of your OS, games, and apps, Dell OptiPlex 7000 Tower supports up to 128 GB of DIMM DDR5-3600/4000/4400 RAM. For office work, home use, and light gaming we recommend 8GB of RAM. For everything else, use 16GB or more. Below you can see the CPU fan and shroud removed – it comes off without tools, like most everything else inside. Under it are the aluminum CPU heatsink and the two So-DIMM slots. This mini-desktop is based on Intel “Alder Lake” Core-class processors with either a 35-or a 65-watt base power rating. As such, the OptiPlex 7000 Micro won’t be a monster performer like desktops equipped with 125-watt K-class chips, but it will easily handle everyday tasks.
