About this deal

PAG polymers, first discovered more than 150 years ago, saw their breakthrough application occur during World War ll. At that time, both fires on U.S. Navy ships and aircraft were occurring due to the use of mineral oil-based hydraulic fluids. Research at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (USNRL) was begun to develop hydraulic fluids that would be more fire-resistant than the ones used at the time based on mineral oil. and Audi A1, A3 are also filled with a new oil that is compatible with both R134a and R1234yf refrigerants. Known as PS-R1, the polyether contains additional additives to protect against wear, oxidation and corrosion etc and offers excellent lubricity, PAG oils might reign supreme in the hierarchy of today’s compressor oils, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some very important exceptions to be mindful of. Polyalphaolefin (PAO) oil can be used as a replacement for some PAG oils, and is sometimes preferred because it doesn’t absorb moisture from the air like other oils do.

When it comes to selecting between pag and poe oil for various applications, it’s essential to consider the specific requirements of your system. Here are some key points to consider: Pag oil is generally used in automotive air conditioning systems, while poe oil is commonly employed in commercial and industrial refrigeration systems. Reduced energy consumption: By ensuring smooth operation and improved heat transfer, poe oil helps in reducing energy consumption. This can lead to significant energy savings and lower operational costs. There are still numerous vehicles on the market with air-conditioning systems originally designed for refrigerant R12. 2001 marked the official final end of R12 in vehicle air-conditioning systems. Ever since then, R12 systems had to be converted during maintenance or repair work. R134a was and is used as replacement refrigerant besides several "drop-in" refrigerants (refrigerant mixtures). Yes, the choice of oil can impact the energy efficiency of the HVAC system. Using the correct oil that matches the refrigerant’s properties can help maintain proper lubrication, reduce friction, and contribute to better overall system efficiency. Can I switch from Pag to Poe oil in an existing HVAC system? For more than 60 years, synthetic lubricants have provided a viable alternative to traditional hydrocarbon lubricants. Each type serves unique roles, with PAG oils performing in both high- and low-temperature environments, in areas of extreme pressure and where water solubility is desired.

General Motors recommends GM lubricants only (PAG-PSD1 #19260643 for 2013/14 Cadillac XTS, and PAG-ND12 #19299051 for 2013 Cadillac ATS) with R1234yf A/C systems. Universal compressor oils should NOT be used in R-1234yf applications.

PAG Oil Applications and Benefits

First, they cannot be used in the cylinder lubrication of internal combustion engines because the combustion by-product is silicon dioxide. Polyalkylene glycol can be designed to form a wide variety of polymers. The design of the polymer can be tailored to the lubricant application to provide, for example, the desired viscosity, pour point, solubility and other attributes. Pag oil, short for polyalkylene glycol oil, is a type of lubricant commonly used in automotive air conditioning systems.
