There are a lot of truly terrible kids bikes out there. Just go to any big box store and head to the bike section. RoyalBaby is not one of those truly terrible bikes. It’s actually a lot better than a typical Walmart bike, but it’s still not great. Definitely not 4.5 stars great. A 41.3″ child would barely be able to touch the ground while seated on the saddle. This is not safe, even with training wheels. On the high end, this bike would be a clown bike for a 53″ child.
For a learner or young child, a single-speed drivetrain will suffice. But as they become more skilled and older, they’ll likely prefer to travel up hills and become more confident by riding on a variety of surfaces. In which case, we recommend opting for more gears to add more variety and create a more adventurous ride. When referring to the gears on a bike, we prefer to compare bikes based on the gain ratio of their gears. The gain ratio of a bike’s gear is determined by the wheel size, crank arm length (the pedal arm length), and the number of teeth on the front and rear cogs. The enclosed chainguard chain guard provides extra protection and will keep your little ones safe from bumps and bruises A bike’s drivetrain is a combination of all of the components that push or pull the bike along, including pedals, chainrings, cranks, chain, cogs (cassette) and derailleur.
The woom 2 (14”) and woom 3 (16”) bikes are the perfect first pedal bikes. If your child is a timid rider or has struggled to learn to ride on other bikes, the woom is the perfect solution! She had great difficulty getting the bike started, and even crashed at one point because she couldn’t gain any momentum. Watching her ride the Royal Baby, it looked like she was a timid rider with little skill, solely because it was so hard for her to maneuver this bike.

Many other factors can affect bike geometry. The fork offset is one of them. This refers to how far the front axle is offset from the steering axis. A small offset on the fork—around 15mm—makes steering more stable, making children feel more balanced on the bike and produces less instability whilst turning. Now can you imagine how frustrated a brand-new rider might be on a Royal Baby bike? Brakes – Not an Ideal Set Up This steel-frame kid’s bicycle is fun and safe for little ones to ride. In particular, the wheels are patented to improve your little one’s stability while they ride the bike. Plus, the hand brakes along the front and Quando coaster brakes provide double safety. In fact, the child-sized brakes come with a shorter lever, so the rider has convenient access to it and can apply the brakes smoothly. We were surprised to discover that the sizing issue that plagues the 14″ model is not as drastic on the 16″ model. However, their stated sizing ranges are still not accurate. According to Royalbaby, the 16″ model is for kids 41.3″– 53″ tall. Even adding something like an improved brake caliper for safer braking isn’t considered because it will raise the cost of the bike. With big-box store bikes , price trumps performance.
