About this deal

Although the C2 is known to produce extra fines (ultra-fine particles), it still outperforms many more expensive grinders overall, so don’t be scared off. It’s not the lightest weight hand grinder. It is too big to fit inside an Aeropress plunger (the Porlex famously can do that); it isn’t ideal for espresso (though a burr upgrade will fix that). But it’s a pleasure to use, fast to grind, and produces a fantastic grind for drip, pour over, siphon, cloth brewing, Chemex, Aeropress, and press pot. Interestingly, the inner burr comes spring-loaded. This means tension (from the spring) is used to set the grind and keep it more consistent again and again.

If, like me, you’re wary of adding more plastic than necessary into your kitchen, know that the C2 is at least made of PCTG plastic, which is BPA-free, food-safe, and extra-durable. PCTG plastic is much longer-lasting than many plastic parts.

Coffee Grinder

So we were pleased to find that consistency was one of the best aspects of the new burr set in the Timemore C3. In tests, it outperformed the Timemore Slim Plus, which uses the same burrs found in the C2. What about espresso? The Chestnut C2 and your French press will become best friends. Your Moka pot and the C2, however, barely tolerate each other in the workplace.

The C2 comes with a cleaning brush and only needs to be brushed clean. FYI most hand grinders should only be kept spic and span with their cleaning brush, not water. Finally, the Chestnut C2 comes in four color options, three dark and one light. That’s for you, fashion lovers. The Timemore C2 Coffee Grinder Isn’t For You If… You Live And Die By Espresso Look, the Timemore Chestnut C2 is hardly a bad little hand grinder, but it leaves a little to be desired in terms of grind quality compared to some of the bigger name manual grinders. Both the C2 and C3 use stainless steel conical burrs. The kind of burrs in each grinder is the biggest difference between the two. The burrs of the Timemore C2 are at a typical size at 38 mm, and many other grinders have burrs of a similar size.

You’re looking for a long-term solution – If you are a frequent traveller, the aluminium build of the Timemore C2 will not offer as much protection as another coffee grinder made of stainless steel. Comparing the Timemore C2 vs 1Zpresso JX, for instance, shows just how much more the latter is suitable for the task as a more premium coffee grinder option. While conical burrs are good for grind consistency, steel burrs are good news for fans of manual coffee brewing and single-origin roasts.Superkop Lever Espresso Machine One of the most unique espresso makers currently on the market, this is our First Look at the Superkop ratchet lever espresso machine. Overall, I think C2 places itself in a comfortable position. It’s the cheapest, serious grinder available, and the size is just about right for something you can use every day while still bringing with you on holiday. Conclusion: Timemore C2 review One of the great joys of my job here at CoffeeGeek is that I get to discover and use exceptional products. For years and years, I was used to the idea that, if I wanted a quality hand grinder, I had to go with something from Orphan Espresso and their huge and heavy Lido models. The OE Lido does set a high bar on quality output, but it’s not exactly a good travel solution. The Timemore C2 manual coffee grinder is perfect for turning your chosen coffee beans into exceptional grounds that are ideal for Aeropress, pour-over and other popular filter brew methods. Ideal for bigger brew methods and faster grinding through larger doses. The burrs remain the same sharp 38mm conical burrs. Timemore C2 Hand Grinder w/ Titanium-coated Buurs The C2 also handles acidity well, allowing for a bright cup without tipping into sourness. This is particularly noticeable in lighter roasts, where the grinder’s consistency ensures that the acidity complements rather than overwhelms the other flavors. Is The Timemore C2 Grinder Worth It? The full grind range is not the consistent grind range. As a result, any espresso setting on the Timemore won’t be consistent enough to make espresso fans happy. The C2 is often hailed as THE cost-effective hand grinder, but when it comes to the burr quality, Timemore didn’t skimp. For an occasional shot, the C3 is a great budget option, but if espresso is your main focus, consider one of the espresso-specific grinders we’ve recommended below. Build quality 4.5/5
