About this deal

But she still holds onto the hope that something might happen that will change her life for the better. (or maybe stay) Lori has a fascination with serial killers, specifically Edmund Cox. Cox is a sadistic, serial killer who murdered over twenty women. Lori is obsessed with him. They correspond regularly through letters and Lori jumps at the opportunity to prove her loyalty when Cox asks her for a favor. She must deliver a key to the River Man.

Let this be your one stop shop for book recommendations, new book announcements, horror news, discussions + more. OLDER SIS GO TO LORI " YO I SAW YOU WITH OUR BROTHER LET GET YOU HELP, BRO WONT GET HELP IF HE WONT SPEAK UP" LORI" NOO NOO WAH WAH * PUSHES HER SISTER OFF A CLIFF AND NOW SHE HAS THE MENTAL CAPACITY OF A CHILD AND USES SHOULDER CRUTCHES TO WALK *I found this to be a very well-written and disturbing horror novel. I thought I knew where it was going but goes to some dark places I didn't expect. The main character is one of the most messed up and complex protagonists I've read in a while. I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: I feel an opportunity for a great story has been missed here. The story starts of great and intriguing at first but sadly becomes mundane and unrealistic. This is a short story and could have been much more if given more length to explore characters and locations. Lori is just such a fanatic. Her obsession is with Edmund Cox, a man of sadistic cruelty who butchered more than 20 women. She’s gone so far as to forge a relationship with him, visiting him in prison and sending him letters on a regular basis. She will do anything to get close to him, so when he gives her a task, she eagerly accepts it.

The story is built upon two split narratives around 25 years apart, the focus of both is Lori, who is just about to turn 40 in the present-day story. Lori has a rather morbid hobby, she writes to serial killers and has an impressive collection of letters from previous correspondences. When the story begins, she is on the way to prison to meet Edmund Cox. Lori is in love with Edmund, even though she knows he has tortured and killed many women, with a special fondness for those from the Far East. As the story unfolds, some of the letters, written by both Lori and Edmund, are dropped into the story. When the pair meet, Edmund gives Lori a mission, or a test, and this lies at the dark core of Gone to See the River Man. It's like the famous Shakespearean soliloquay about "To Be or Not To Be," where Hamlet considers suicide if it weren't for the mystery of "What dreams may come" - what follows death? and could it be worse than life? This is the story of a woman named Lori who has an unhealthy infatuation with a prison inmate named, Edmund. He’s not your garden variety “one and done” murderer. Edmund did unspeakable things to his female victims. It’s inconceivable why our protagonist Lori is so enamored with him. Edmund tells her she must go to his cabin in the woods of Killen and retrieve a key to deliver to a mysterious figure known only as The River Man.
