artifact. The Nazis make a house call to her bar, too, and they're not quite as forgiving as Indy or willing to leave empty-handed. The ruthless The missteps in this film were pretty comprehensive and pretty unforgivable. The story was littered with the usual plethora of thrilling stunt-driven setpieces, and frequently went deliriously over the top, but with CG came the curse of excess, and Spielberg appeared to just want to double-down in this respect. Have someone swinging through the trees? Sure. Do the Tarzan thing? No, too far. Have a CG gopher pop up at the start of the movie? Sure. Have them as a recurring motif throughout the movie? What, did they have some CG left over that they just had to use up before its Best Before Date? In fact, even the frequently, rightly, lambasted "Nuking the Fridge" moment is surprisingly tolerable, until the point where he rolls out and sees a... CG gopher. What were they thinking? Were Porgs unavailable at the time of filming? Raiders of the Lost Ark's UHD disc only includes a trio of trailers (the same included on the Blu-ray discs released in 2012), but the four-film set

radical alterations between UHD and Blu-ray one will find. Comparisons reveal quite the leap for both film-like texture and sharpness as well as color Extras: If there’s any aspect of this UHD boxset that disappoints, it’s the extra features; and that’s only because there’s nothing new here. Everything from the trailers that accompany each film (three each for Raiders… and …Crystal Skull, two each for …Temple of Doom and …Last Crusade) to the seven behind-the-scenes documentaries and five featurettes bundled together on the bonus Blu-ray platter also featured in the 2012 Indiana Jones: The Complete Adventures BD boxset. Even so, while it would have been great to have some new material to mark Raiders of the Lost Ark’s 40th anniversary, there’s no denying that this was already a pretty comprehensive collection of goodies. It's not a showcase presentation though. Nothing about it is good enough to allow you to show off the films. However, for all of the above, there are traces of digital filtering across all four 4K encodes. It’s certainly not excessive and the majority of viewers probably won’t notice it at all, but tell-tale instances of frozen grain and posterisation will be sure to catch the attention of eagle-eyed home cinema-hedz. But even while these 4K encodes are not quite perfect, they come bloody close and are by far the best these movies have ever looked.

For more about Indiana Jones: 4-Movie Collection 4K and the Indiana Jones: 4-Movie Collection 4K Blu-ray release, see Indiana Jones: 4-Movie Collection 4K Blu-ray Review published by Martin Liebman on July 6, 2021 where this Blu-ray release scored 4.5 out of 5. All right, believe it or not, even after the insanity that’s been the last couple of days, we still have a bit more new release news to catch you all up on here at The Bits... The fabulously exciting and surprisingly dark Temple of Doom is a veritable roller-coaster ride of a sequel. We say: Fortune and glory, kid! An impressive 4K Dolby Vision/Dolby Atmos upgrade of the existing Blu-ray boxset.

primary color scheme is orange on (off) white. The front of the box depicts Indy in an orange forward facing silhouette with the unmistakable fedora The disc presents a 3840x2160/24p image in the film's original aspect ratio of widescreen 2.39:1, and uses a Wide Colour Gamut (WCG), High Dynamic Range (HDR), Dolby Vision, and is encoded using the HEVC (H.265) codec.

making it a prized possession for Hitler's war machine. An intercepted communique reveals that Nazi diggers have unearthed the ancient city of The answer then has to be yes. Overall it's better than the previous blu-ray version The sound is better. The image is better. The colours are a lot better. We now also know that the movie will be released on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD in the US on December 5. However, there has yet to be any news about its Disney+ debut worldwide.

and the skull. Small studio logos and legalese line the bottom. The spine brings over a squashed version of the map, the film's title as presented on Paramount and Lucasfilm have released these films a number of times on home video now, most recently on DVD (in 2003) and Blu-ray ( Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was the first to arrive on the format in 2008, followed by original trilogy in 2012). And now, at long last, all of these films have been re-scanned and remastered in native 4K for release in a new Indiana Jones: 4-Movie Collection on Ultra HD. All 3 of the original films look the best they have ever looked, with some of the scenes looking incredible, with distant details really clear (e.g. the bridge scene in Temple). There is a fair amount of grain in some scenes, but for me that gives it a natural feel for a film of this age. Some of the scenes are also soft focus, but again, that is almost certainly a natural artefact of the original footage, rather than the transfer. After leaving his mark in the world of horror with Jawsand elevating B-quality sci-fi to that of awarding-winning drama while pushing visual effects wizardry in Close Encounters, Steven Spielberg forged ahead to breathe new life in yet another movie genre with Raiders of the Lost Ark. Partnering with writer and producer George Lucas, the legendary filmmaker cooked up the perfect recipe for the action-adventure film. The first feature in the Indiana Jones saga is also where Spielberg began really demonstrating his unique style and distinct spirited tone that eventually grew into its own definition — the Spielbergian. From the opening moments of the Paramount logo seamlessly fading into a wide establishing shot of a South American mountain peak, we become witness to the imaginative creativity of a true virtuoso, a genuine filmmaker in complete control of the camera.Just an update for the anticipated Indiana Jones 4K release. Seems like Paramount will release 3 Tom Cruise 4K titles before IJ.
