About this deal

As a result, the customisation process can perhaps be a bit tedious and fiddly (particularly the cable-shortening clips), but once you’ve found your ideal combination you shouldn’t have to adjust it again. Jaybird’s new style of in-ear fins may not suit all ears. But they do ours, and make fitting them easier than previous generations. Jaybird has reduced the size of the earbud casing compared to the X2. Not only does this stop them from protruding out of your ears as much, but it also means they’re now “helmet compatible”; they won’t get in the way of your helmet straps. Having thrown on a cycling helmet, I can attest to this claim. Sound quality offers a good mix of an exercise-friendly tone without going overboard. And the companion app lets you thoroughly customise the character of what you're hearing. Jaybird does need to work on improving the response speed of the remote, though.

Jaybird X3 review - SoundGuys

The Jaybird App gives you the tools you need to take total control of your Jaybird headphones. Create your own EQ presets and save them to your buds. Find a flawless fit. Fine-tune levels to your hearing for the perfect sound no matter what device you’re paired with. The Jaybird X3 wireless sports headphone is smaller than the X2, has improved battery life, costs less and sounds excellent for an in-ear Bluetooth headphone. It's sweat resistant and comes with a compact protective carrying pouch.Audio company Jaybird is as focused as they come, so you immediately know what you’re getting when it announces a new pair of headphones. Like all of its other headphones, such as the Jaybird X2 these are replacing, the X3 are headphones geared towards sports and adrenaline-fuelled activities. The earbud casings are nowhere near as tiny as those found on the Jaybird Freedom, however, nor are they made from metal. These are plastic, but they at least feel well-constructed and robust. The X3 are sweat-proof, as you’d expect.

We would comfortably recommend these to gym junkies, audio purists and average Joe’s alike (don’t worry, you’re special in your own way), and while waiting for Bluetooth connections to improve their reliability is an option, at this price it isn’t worth missing out. They low-end does have a good degree of punch to it, but those who prefer their bass to slap them round the face may find it a little reserved. Instead, the X3s are clean and clear, with good treble detail. The Jaybird X3 is a significant improvement over the X2 and one of the top Bluetooth sports headphone currently available. Not everyone will love the Jaybird X3s’ style, though. The hook and tip combo fills your ears, with a feel not that far removed from a custom-fit in-ear monitor, although this does provide better-than-average noise isolation. The design may be like this to improve water resistance, as the aperture is large for a pair with 6mm drivers. My Freedom 2 buds keep turning off or my music device keeps stopping after I connect. What do I do? Stiff at the base and flexible up top thanks to a honeycomb-pattern cut-out, a pull upwards makes them pop out of your ears easily, but an accidental yank down won’t.
