So far, the book has not bored me, even though spending so much time with the ex-drama is frustrating. I wished Nate and Rosie's romance took up more of the book, and I prefer more intimate, slow-burn romances to instant love stories.

Just Last Night: A Novel: McFarlane, Mhairi: 9780063036857

My conclusion is this: there’s no rule that says the unavailable person you waste your life being in love with has to be the greatest human you ever met. It doesn’t make the loss of him any less painful.” The flow, as I said, was not good. As other reviewers rightfully noted, this is the slowest book ever. It takes almost to the 40 percent mark for Roisin and her long-time boyfriend, Joe to even have a conversation about the state of their relationship. The weekend away took til the 40 percent mark! That could have been cut in half. And even then, things don't get resolved until the 77 percent mark, and even then we get a twist/reveal at the 84 percent mark.Kimster, Fran, Jess& Franlopedia - I am excite and have no idea what this is about other than yay alternate timelines storytelling 🙃 A celebration with friends turns into a nightmare for Roisin after viewing Joe’s new tv show that basically puts her life on the screen. As the episodes continue, Roisin questions her life choices and how she can trust anything in the future.

I’m looking forward for her writing more books and making her readers root for the characters (even though some of them seem annoying at first) and make us feel things. As per usual, her characters and stories are completely immersive and what you may typically think of women's fiction or romance, is always elevated by her in a masterful way. I really, really loved this book. At times, it's charming and witty, whilst also being rash and unforgiving. The thing I've come to find about McFarlane's novels is that they are all character driven, and this trait shines through again with Roisin and the gang. Despite us thinking this was a romance, there was fairly little romance. There was some in the second half of the book, but I wanted a bit more of it! I felt like we had only just begun to see a glimpse of the romantic potential, and then the book wrapped up! Besides that though, this book took me on a rollercoaster of emotions, and I'm still not over it..Gorgeously romantic, as well as a story about friendship and grief and loss; I never wanted it to end’ BETH O’LEARY Eve, Justin, Susie, and Ed have been friends since they were teenagers. Now in their thirties, the four are as close as ever, Thursday pub trivia night is sacred, and Eve is still secretly in love with Ed. Maybe she should have moved on by now, but she can’t stop thinking about what could have been. And she knows Ed still thinks about it, too. At least I easily got into the story, enjoying the friendship drama, self-growth, and second chances theme. And I don't want to give anything away, and spoiler-tagging wouldn't really be adequate (it'd be either too much or too little). So I think I'll stop there more-or-less. I'll say that I was perfectly satisfied with the resolution of this story on all levels. Eve's personal growth is outstanding, but so is the growth in her friends. The romantic fall-out was everything it needed to be. In short, it came together strongly in every way I was aware of. So yeah, all the stars.

Between Us: The biggest rom com of 2023: smart, romantic and

No spoilers here for readers, but have some tissues standing by people. I cried a bit. With the world the way it is and for some of us who lost people due to COVID or other things this past year, this book will slap you in the feels. It goes into a lot of things I think which will cause you to stop and think. McFarlane walks you through first love, unrequited love, death, loss of parents, and even new love. It's not a typical romance but rather focuses on friendship and empowerment although I enjoyed the romance (it started quite late in the book) very much. Mhairi McFarlane had me at hello and I will definitely look her other books up. Since this is told in the first person, via Eve, you do get to see her character developed, but you also get to see some changes to others like Ed and even Fin. Brilliant on relationships, friendships and emotions… I loved, loved, loved this book’ MARIAN KEYES The writing was engrossing, with some great moments of humour, and I adored getting to know Eve and her friends. The only thing that bugged me was that most of the book revolves around the unhealthy relationship of the heroine, who finds herself deceived by the illusion of their love life, leaving little time for her second chance romance. Indeed, her blooming romance with another man after getting rid of her toxic ex is too instant for my liking.

after the hiccup with my first MM book and learning to go into her novels not expecting romance, this was a completely different experience, and one for the better. fast forward to four hours later when I have not even moved from the couch. I swear. No pee breaks, no food, nada. I love that feeling. Also I should've known better because not only is it me but it's also a McFarlane book. Eve, Justin, Susie, and Ed have been friends since they were teenagers. Now in their thirties, the four are as close as ever, Thursday night bar trivia is sacred, and Eve is still secretly in love with Ed. Maybe she should have moved on by now, but she can’t stop thinking about what could have been. And she knows Ed still thinks about it, too. I did appreciate the side plot around Roisin and her complicated relationship with her mother, and enjoyed their dynamics. The characters are all so realistic that you feel with them. Eve is such a strong character that stays true to herself throughout. I’m glad that she knows her worth and won’t settle for less. She was extremely brave to challenge the relationship with her and Ed. I loved Finlay! What a babe! So you know what you're getting when you start one. But man this one is her best yet. She's perfected her style, and Eve's story is so wonderful. Ending on a high note: the very last chapter reminded me of the final scene in Steven Soderbergh's Sex, Lies and Videotape... very fitting!
