About this deal

The LG G3 sits at the top of LG’s 4K OLED lineup and is part of its OLED evo range. Unlike last year’s model, the G2, it uses a groundbreaking MLA panel that delivers higher brightness, more impactful HDR and superior colour performance. Google Assistant: Ask your TV questions about what you’re watching and find new content using Google voice search. OLED image retention can be managed with the Screensaver mode (leaves no static images on the screen), Screen Move (which shifts pixels slightly), and Logo Brightness (which reduces how bright static logos on a screen are). Turn the TV on for the first time and it’ll boot in Auto Power mode to conserve energy. This can be changed at any time. Picture Quality It’s worth noting that both the MZ2000 and OLED+908 are unlikely to be available until the autumn, by which time the LG G3 will probably have seen some form of discount to make it a more appealing value-for-money proposition. LG G3 OLED review: Design, connections and control This is actually a pretty huge development, as it chops away hard at the old 'LED is for bright rooms, OLED is for dark rooms' adage. In fact, the OLED65G3’s pictures even remain punchy and enjoyable with the TV placed in front of a set of patio doors on a bright, sunny day.

The G3 uses a new sixth-gen Alpha a9 AI processor, which should run largely the same as previous models, with a few upgrades to LG’s AI Picture Pro and AI Sound Pro modes, which tweak audio-visual output depending on the content you’re watching. The former offers “improved upscaling” and object detection, while the latter imitates a “virtual 9.1.2 surround sound” on the TV’s 3.1.2 channel speakers. LG has changed the polariser set up on the OLED65G3 too, which means that the much brighter pictures have even more impact because they're no longer as affected by ambient light reflections as they have been previously. Overall, connecting devices to the model was easy. And although my old hi-fi Cambridge Audio amp and speakers did not connect because it had an outdated connection cord, I found I didn’t mind as much. Oh, how wrong I was. There’s of course the technical advancements, such as OLED Evo and Micro Lens Array, that have been made to give it next-generation picture quality, which we cover in this article about things you need to know before buying an OLED –but then there’s the overall experience that it delivers. The slightly noisy look that we'd sometimes notice in dark scenes on LG OLEDs has largely gone on the G3 too, while at the other end of the spectrum, LG takes full advantage of its new TV's extra brightness threshold by delivering much more brightness and intensity in peak light areas without 'clipping' subtle shading details.

However, while the improvements LG has brought to the OLED65G3's pictures are unequivocally outstanding, the same can't be said of its sound system.

And I have to say, when I first saw the high-resolution image with the pixel-perfect colors and contrast, it was like what I imagine putting glasses on for the first time would have been like. Every dot looked to be honed to the smallest degree, with punchy colors and dramatic depths. The folders add an extra layer to the content exploration process, but the system is flexible enough about letting you decide what gets priority to make it feel like a handy improvement overall.Whether you’re a box-set binger or a live sport lover, smart televisions put your favourite content in the palm of your hands. Key benefits of LG Smart TVs… Moving on, the LG OLED65G3 is incredibly bright out of the box. Small highlights fizz with intensity, there’s barely any reduction in the brightness output of larger objects on screen, with average brightness across various picture modes considerably brighter than the Sony A95K, contributing to brighter white tones, although with Dolby Vision content this position is reversed. This is a terrifically bright HDR performance, one that – in its Dolby Vision and Filmmaker modes – respects the creative intent of the source. That said, even compared to 2022’s Sony A95K, there are still areas where the A95K is better. Even in our wildest dreams we hadn’t imagined that the LG OLED65G3 would turn out as well as it has. The headline-grabbing brightness increase lives up to the hype, adding even more impact to real world pictures than our already unprecedented test signal measurements had led us to expect. The extent to which this makes OLED suddenly an option for bright as well as dark rooms can’t be overstated, either.

HDR peak brightness measured 1,450cd/m² on a 10% window after calibration to the D65 white point, and 215cd/m² full-screen, representing the biggest luminance jump from one OLED model year to the next.In the 1st year of the warranty, panel, parts, and labor costs are covered. In the 2nd - 5th year of the warranty, only panels are covered, and labor will be charged. The main talking point of the G3 is its brightness. LG traditionally debuts new light-enhancing tech in its pricier G Series models before bringing those features to lesser models, and it’s no different this year. Since the LG G3 includes Dolby Vision alongside its support for the more basic HDR10 and HLG HDR formats, it can also deliver Dolby Vision gaming. In fact, unlike any other brand of OLED TV to date, it can even deliver Dolby Vision support with 4K/120Hz signals.

You can also navigate the G3's smart features and adjustments easily using multiple voice control service options. The new “4:4:4 Pass Through” option enables full chroma reproduction without increasing input lag, making it ideal for console gaming, especially since it reduces posterisation when displaying a 4K 120Hz video signal. At the time of writing, LG remains the only brand whose OLED TVs support 4K 120Hz Dolby Vision gaming on the Xbox Series X. LG G3 OLED review: Sound quality The built-in sound quality of the LG G3 is surprisingly good for a TV. While (of course) connecting one of the best soundbars would be even more immersive, I found that turning on the AI Sound Pro enhanced the audio quality significantly. While I initially questioned the stand’s stability, I was impressed with the ease that the G3 balanced such a large weight on what felt like flimsy hooks when fixing it in place, but the four tiny screws seemed to do the job and hold the TV upright. The LG G3 boasts a premium design, a slim profile and a minimalistic appearance. The 65in model I’m reviewing here measures 1,441 x 24 x 826mm (WDH) and weighs 23.9kg. It's important to stress that G3's huge picture improvements pay off with game graphics at least as impactfully as they do with video. Gaming fans already loving the prowess of LG TVs as gaming displays will likely think they've died and gone to heaven when they see what their games look like on the G3.
