I enjoyed the story, although I'd be lying if I said I did not get annoyed at some of the inconsistencies, like an Eid ball, Rumaysa wearing a hijab even in the tower, and being aware of her own name when even the witch is not. The story could also be more cohesive, but it felt somewhat scattered. Rumaysa's adventures did not seem relevant to her story, at least in book 1. Abu Talhah thought she was trying to put him off and that perhaps she had already preferred someone wealthier and more influential. He said to her:
