About this deal

Someone is creating monsters that at first seem to be super-duper enhanced vampires. But they’re not. They’re mindless husks who regenerate at will and seem to be impossible to kill. Upon closer scientific study (this world is steampunk-ish so there’s plenty of mad science at least of the medical variety) it’s revealed that these mindless husks were never vampires – and that vampires are immune to the infection that creates them. Rin Chupeco [1] is a Chinese Filipino writer of young adult fiction, best known for their books The Bone Witch, The Girl from the Well, and The Never-Tilting World series.

Court intrigue, vampires, queer romance—Rin Chupeco’s Silver Under Nightfall has all of this and more. The author’s upcoming book follows Remy Pendergast as he investigates a terrifying new breed of vampire. Along the way, he finds unexpected allies and dangers. If you’re into Castlevania, chances are high that Silver Under Nightfall falls right into your interests. And today, Nerdist has the exclusive reveal of Silver Under Nightfall‘s bold and bloody cover. Remy Pendergast is a Reaper. In this world that means vampire hunter. But Remy only hunts so-called “rogue” vampires – ones who are causing mischief in human-controlled countries like Aluria. Vampires also have fiefdoms of their own where the rules are undoubtedly different. That revelation did not cause an immediate retreat, as one might expect. Remy could smell their desperation. There were more problems to be had with the son of the infamous Reaper than an unknown hunter trying to make his bones off bounties. Better credibility and a more plausible testimony, for starters.A companion novel, The Suffering, continues the story of Okiku and Tark as they travel the country. [11] The man grinned, exposing long, elegant fangs, white as ivory in the dim light. Remy tensed, his mind seeking out other weapons, other alternatives. The vampire bastard knew this wasn’t a fair fight. He had the strength of thirty men, of at least five Remys. He looked capable of punching through the moon if he jumped high enough. All Remy had was a limited drug supply and a cylinder full of spent knives. Thornhedge is the tale of a kind-hearted, toad-shaped heroine, a gentle knight, and a mission gone completely sideways. Why won’t you let me kill you?” she cried out as petulantly as a child. A vessel had been severed somewhere behind her right iris, and from that eye, blood cried down, hardened, and clotted. I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into this book, and now that I’ve read it I’m still not entirely sure. Except that it was fantastic. Heart-pounding, fingernail-biting, stay up until 3 in the morning to finish fantastic.

The vampire was far too strong. Far too close. Remy’s daggers were on the ground, and he had little room to move his scythes. “There will be no justice until he is punished according to the law,” he found himself growling. The man who had bested him was a Summer Lord. A Third Court vampire. His father was going to kill him. The lord smiled. You could hammer at the diamonds of those dark eyes for years and never make a dent. “I very much hope not, Pendergast,” he said. He was expecting the newcomer to be yet another dramatic brat. He was only partially correct. The stranger had dramatic stapled to him, but it was the kind of dramatic that attached itself, unwanted, like a very glamorous leech, and demanded attention on behalf of its owner whether it was warranted or not. You have my word that my brother shall never harm the people of Tennyfair ever again, and my word is—”Spisak, April (2015-11-12). "The Suffering by Rin Chupeco (review)". Lady Daneira’s blood was still on him, still seeping into his clothes. “You? And what punishment will you deem worthy, milord? A slap on the wrist? A temporary limit on his monthly allowances?” It is every concern of mine!” Remy shouted. “Your brother was responsible for a girl’s murder! For no reason other than his own entertainment!” And then the lord smiled with a rapacious, predatory hunger that had nothing to do with Remy’s attempt to kill him, and that made Remy’s hands dampen with sweat. Was she your lover? Is that why her death causes you such anguish?” The fresh intensity in the lord’s eyes had only increased, and it made Remy feel... uncomfortable. Vulnerable.

As they navigate the dangerous terrain and face new threats, Remy develops complicated feelings for the couple. With each passing day, he begins to question everything he thought he knew about vampires, including the story behind his own family legacy. This is not over!” Remy yelled after him, rather uselessly given the aftermath, suddenly aware of the cold the vampire had left in his wake. F rom Olivie Blake, the New York Times bestselling author of The Atlas Six comes Masters of Death, a story about vampires, ghosts, and death itself! Enter Xiaodan Song, a kind-hearted heiress, and her arrogant lord fiancé, Zidan Malekh. While joining forces with the vampire couple may not help Remy’s reputation, they hold the key to defeating the deadly creatures. Lush writing, sexy vampires and thrilling battles? Sign me up! This dark, bloody novel is deliciously fun!” —Sangu Mandanna, author of The Very Secret Society of Irregular WitchesBecause of The Girl From the Well and The Suffering, I already knew Rin Chupeco was a dab hand at the horror genre. Silver Under Nightfall really solidified this for me. There’s not really a mystery in the sense that we’re immediately told that rabid mutant vampires are the threat to the kingdom. But still, Chupeco still manages to send chills skittering down the reader’s spine with the use of incredibly evocative language. The smug, malicious confidence the boy had once strapped on like armor had dissolved. He could only jerk his head slightly, garble something incoherently from around the blade still wedged through his vocal cords. To the point where I’ll probably be squeeing uncontrollably more than reviewing per se. But I did love it so, so hard. Chupeco was born and raised in Manila, Philippines. [2] They are of Chinese, Malay, Thai, and Filipino descent. [3] The vampire laughed. “And what will you do about it? Who would they believe—a noble, or some commoner who’s just slayed a duke’s daughter in the woods?”
