With an interesting discussion, excerpts and an extra scene between James (er the character from The Ugly Duchess) and Griffin (from Seduced by a Pirate) after Colin makes a request from James.Grace, our protagonist, is shy and overshadowed by her charming and outgoing sister, Lily. What I like about this is that while Lily can be a bit... self-absorbed, she's a nice girl who loves Grace. She just likes fun and mischief and isn't serious or ready to settle down like Grace. Grace. I loved Grace all the way. She loves so tenderly and generously, even when it was hurting her. Her gift (Lily's portrait) to Colin was particularly heart-wrenching.

Here's the thing, to a point I really enjoyed these short stories (all about 30pgs each). I loved how James illustrated how the two grew close over the years, how Grace understood Colin in a way no one else seemed to. I thought it was sweet that Colin treated Grace with respect and didn't talk down to her. Then as they grew older we saw how Grace's feelings for Colin evolved and Colin, for various reasons (I'll get into later), clung to an easier time. I had a rather difficult time with a piece of the second part however. Spellbinding, magical and utterly original, With This Kiss is one love story you will never forget.I realize I have rated Eloisa James’s With This Kiss: Part One well below other reviewers, not that I didn’t like it. Who would not enjoy EJ’s skillfully written story of Grace and Colin, but by the end I felt let down. Thankfully, things are straightened out in part three, as Colin finally tells Grace about his reasons for not writing to her and for proposing to Lily; everything is straightened out and yes, Colin makes up for his previous mistake and proceeds to show Grace exactly what all the fuss is about. *wink* Now that he was a big boy, all of sixteen, she was too shy to hop into his lap the way Lily did. But earlier in the evening, she had leaned against his shoulder while he told a story about a sea dragon and a pirate treasure. CW: A really, really poorly written trans character (if you could even call her that) and cis people trying to show their allyship in a way that'll churn your guts up.
