About this deal

We can’t make it. We can’t store it well. But we certainly need it on a daily basis. Arguably a contender for ‘hardest working vitamin’, vitamin C shows up to boost your energy, support your skin and bolster your immunity. It’s needed to produce and regulate the stress hormones and helps virtually every major organ in the body function properly.

Brands just slap the word ‘liposomal’ on the product and try to make as much money as they can, until and if they get called out on what they are doing. Unfortunately, too many people want to make too much money and have no significant ethics. Taking a product that you believe to be liposomal but isn’t deprives people of the absorption benefits of true liposomal vitamin C. It is terribly unfair to consumers who are paying for a very specific technology that in many cases simply isn’t utilised in the product! Abundance & Health, Altrient’s distributor and retailer, independently tests liposomal brands for quality. Tim Orchard, Director of Abundance & Health, says In early stages of vitamin C deficiency, usually seen within a few weeks to one month of inadequate intake, non specific symptoms include physical and mental fatigue, weakness, lethargy, irritability, weight loss, recurrent infections, poor wound healing, and mild muscle and joint aches and pains. Later signs & symptoms: Scurvy

Vitamin C’s antioxidant power also protects all of your cell structures, including proteins, lipids, DNA, RNA, mitochondria and cell membranes, from oxidising damage and gives your whole body a natural line of defence. If these free radicals build up in high amounts, it can damage cells, cause ageing and inflammation and lead to chronic disease. YourZooki Ltd explained that Liposomal Vitamin C was an emulsion containing phospholipids, such as phosphatidylcholine, which was wrapped in layers around the vitamin C, and that the term “liposomal” was an inherent characteristic of the product's composition rather than a claim. They said that liposomes came in many forms and were widely present in many consumer products. And as we’ve just pointed out, vitamin C is needed for several different processes, including the production of the stress hormones adrenalin and cortisol. This is really important to remember. When we’re stressed, vitamin C will be re-directed from other areas in the body to help manufacture the potentially life saving adrenaline and cortisol. Which means it’s no longer available for anything else. Natural lipids’ are how Zooki refers to the layer of essential phospholipids that surround the nutrients in all theirproducts. YourZooki said the advertised product had been analysed using a variety of testing methods which, they believed, confirmed the presence of liposomal vitamin C particles. They provided copies of two independent studies, one from 2017 and one from 2020. They detailed the methodology used, which they said had ensured that the liposomes were not ruptured prior to testing. They also submitted a specification document detailing the composition of the product. Assessment

Immune System Defense: Vitamin C is a vital nutrient for immune function. Zooki Liposomal Vitamin C helps strengthen your body's natural defence mechanisms, supporting the production of white blood cells and antibodies that fight off infections. By incorporating this supplement into your daily routine, you can give your immune system the boost it needs to stay resilient.Foods that contain the most vitamin C include: papaya, bell peppers, guava, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, oranges, strawberries, kiwi, pineapple and cantaloupe melon. We know that vitamin C is an antioxidant - which means that it helps protect our cells from damage. But did you know it also: YourZooki’s testing had used PTA, a light scattering technique that gave information on the size and concentration of particles in suspension or solution. PTA was not suited to providing information on the structure of lipid aggregates, because neither the presence of lipid bilayers at the nanometre scale, nor the shape of nonmetric objects present in the solution, could be directly derived from PTA data. YourZooki’s evidence featured videos of the PTA process showing particles with double rings, which their report attributed to the presence of liposomes. However, given the quality control issues regarding the sample preparation, the rings were more likely diffraction rings around individual scattering objects. The analytical techniques used in YourZooki’s report had been applied without due regard to adequate experimental design to allow for potential matrix effects, sample preparation effects, and general quality control. That rendered the interpretation of the data generated difficult and the results inconclusive. We considered that the evidence was therefore insufficient to show that the product contained liposomes. We know it might be slightly confusing - it’s hard to imagine how Vitamin CZooki tastes so good without artificial additives and sugars. However, despite the sweet taste, all Zooki products are completely free from sugars, artificial sweeteners and additives. Nothing but natural goodness and high impact nutrients. The sweetness you’re tasting could be the xylitol in our Zooki products, which is a naturally sweet compound found in fruits; however, unlike sugar, xylitol has a very low glycemic index and thus no effect on blood sugar levels. Signs and symptoms of vitamin C deficiency develop after a few weeks to months of vitamin C depletion. Severe vitamin C deficiency, although very rare these days, can lead to the development of a condition known as scurvy, which is related to defects in connective tissues and collagen. Early signs & symptoms of vitamin C deficiency

Vitamin C helps to increase the absorption of plant sources of iron (non-heme iron) (7). Vitamin C and heart health In our range, you'll find YourZooki collagen supplements, which help to support youthful skin from within. These sachets contain high-strength, hydrolysed marine collagen in a selection of mouth-watering flavours – so you'll look forward to taking your daily dose. We also have YourZooki vitamin C options to boost your immune system and anti-inflammatory turmeric to aid digestion. Be ready to increase the supplementation at the first sign of an infection, tiredness, or stress. It's hard to overdose on vitamin C as when your body can't store it, it will excrete it out. So there's no point in taking a huge amount at once. If you feel you need more vitamin C for any reason you should take a couple of 1,000 mg doses every few hours. The worst reaction you may have if you really overdo it is a bit of diarrhoea. Vitamin C Zooki makes it really easy to add to your water bottle and sip throughout the day as well. Why does my pee turn orange when I take vitamin C? Does that mean I don’t need that much? Consuming extra vitamin C may be beneficial for those who do a lot of intense physical exercise, as this causes the immune system to raise inflammation, supporting the repair and building of muscles. Vitamin C and collagen formation Vitamin C is present to some degree in most fruits and vegetables, however, some types of fresh produce have more vitamin C than others. Contrary to popular belief, many fruits and vegetables contain more vitamin C than oranges and other citrus fruits.Poor diet: Alcohol, refined sugar, caffeine and processed foods. These can cause high urinary excretion of vitamin C or high production of free radicals, which increases our need for antioxidants Vitamin C Zooki is generally safe for children, however we always recommend consulting with a medical professional before giving any dietary supplement to children under the age of 18. Young children under the age of 13 do not need a full sachet, and if they have too much it may temporarily upset their stomach. To manage how much to give to children, we recommend mixing with a small amount of water, adding it to yoghurt or giving it to them off a teaspoon. We recommend ages 4 - 8 have up to one teaspoon daily and children 8 - 13 have half a sachet. In September 2020 four different liposomal brands were tested, including YourZooki. YourZooki and one other brand returned negative tests for liposomes. Two other brands showed very low liposome levels. On this basis, we made a complaint to the ASA about the liposomal claims of YourZooki. The consumer will have no way of determining which product is genuine based on the marketing message. We are grateful that the ASA has taken this matter seriously and completed a thorough investigation. We believe that this ruling will force the remaining brands who are falsely marketing their products as "liposomal" to remove their liposomal claims for the benefit of consumers and true liposomal producers Leading liposomal food supplement brand Altrient® has welcomed the latest ruling from the Advertising Standard Agency (ASA) regarding the clarity and required substantiation of marketing claims around liposomal vitamin C supplement brands. The ASA upheld the complaint against supplement brand YourZooki – stating that YourZooki’s claims of its VITAMIN C ZOOKI product being a “liposomal vitamin C” are unsubstantiated and misleading.

This is an important day for the liposomal vitamin industry and for consumers. Liposomal supplements are a fascinating technology for delivering maximised absorption, but ‘buyer beware’ - there is more fraud in liposomal supplements than in any other type of supplement I have seen. We had not seen conclusive evidence confirming the presence of liposomes in YourZooki’s product and concluded that the claims “liposomal vitamin C”, and similar claims about the liposomal content of the product, were misleading and had not been substantiated.” Glycerin, Liposomal Vitamin C Proprietary Blend ( Sunflower oil containing Phosphatidylcholine and Vitamin C as L-Ascorbic Acid), Purified Water, Natural Flavours (Citrus oil and Vanilla), Vitamin E, Natural Colours (Beta Carotene), Potassium Bicarbonate, Sucrose( <0.1g) Oleic Acid, Acid (Citric Acid) , Liposomal Proprietary Blend 4000mg of which Phosphatidylcholine 1000mgThe ad breached CAP Code (Edition 12) rules 3.1 (Misleading advertising) and 3.7 (Substantiation).
