About this deal

Nurgle Daemons have access to the Warprot discipline, where the spell names are all familiar but the powers have changed. Generally speaking, they’re all much better. DISCIPLES OF BE’LAKOR PSYKERS in your army can generate their Psychic Powers from the Nocitic Discipline. Pestilent Inspiration (1 CP) gives a Nurgle psyker all of the powers in the discipline for a turn. Interesting as an option, because there are more than 2 good ones, but not sure how often you’ll use it. There are a LOT of Daemons though. If GW did choose combine the two books the size of that codex would rival the Space Marine codex. That said it’s not implausible! It seems like GW has had to combine books due to various logistical reasons. The tail end of 9th edition has been a bit of a rough go in terms of releases and scheduling. That’s one more factor to consider.

The most interesting choice is Nourished By Terror . Reality Rebels is a near auto-take, and Despoilers Of Reality will almost never be taken. Nourished By Terror is going to be very matchup dependent, but has lots of upside. Your score 1VP for every model that flees, and have a chance to gain 1VP every time an enemy unit is destroyed if you roll 2D6 over their Leadership. With Daemons gaining a universal Leadership debuff and having additional ways to debuff Leadership further, you’re going to take this secondary more often than you think. Daemons no longer have invuln saves on any of their datasheets. Instead, they just have Armour Saves (called Daemonic Saves, or DSv). Each DSv will list a melee save and ranged save, such a DSv 6+/3+ for Pink Horrors. The catch? The saving throws can never be modified in a positive or negative way. This means Daemons don’t care about AP, but they also don’t care about cover. They’re going to roll the save that’s on their datasheet–just like the Dark Gods intended. If your army is led by a Warlord with the KHORNE DAEMON Faction keywords, you can give one of the following Hellforged Artefacts to an EXALTED BLOODTHIRSTER model from your army, instead of giving them a Hellforged Artefact from another source. Slaanesh model only. Once per game, at the start of any enemy phase, the bearer can target a single enemy Character within 12″. Roll 3D6; if the total exceeds that model’s Leadership, it cannot act (do or react to anything) until the end of the phase and it cannot use any abilities on its datasheet that affect another unit. Virulent Blessing (WC 6) gives a friendly Nurgle Daemons CORE unit within 18” +1 to its damage. Shame you can’t put this on a GUO bIts dark and brooding cover was shown off on May 4, and a plethora of Chaos announcements came hot on its heels. During Warhammer Fest 2022 (May 4 – May 7), we saw a whole new range of horrible (lovely) Chaos Space Marine models. The World Eaterstied off all the Warhammer 40k Chaos factions– and in fact, all the codexes for 9th edition. And as our writer Tim Linward says in his World Eaters Codex review, they might be the very best codex of the edition. If a Detachment conatins any units with the HERETIC ASTARTES Faction Keyword, it can use Stratagems, Relics, and Warlord Traits as if it was a Chaos Space Marine Detachment. Note, however, that such a Detachment never counts as a Detachment, and you cannot use any Legion-specific rules. If your army is Battle-forged and includes any Chaos Daemons Detachments – that is, any Detachment that includes only units with both the CHAOS and DAEMONS Faction keywords – (excluding Auxiliary Support Detachments), you have access to the Stratagems shown here. Matched Play Rule – Daemonic Jealousy: In a matched play game, you can only select each Exalted ability once. This does not prevent other EXALTED Greater Daemons from having the same Exalted ability (or abilities), but only if they have been rolled for randomly. If you are randomly rolling for Exalted abilities, write ‘Random’ on your army list for that unit and roll the dice before the battle in front of your opponent.

Codex: Chaos Daemons Has Even Better Ways to Khorne Day – Codex: Chaos Daemons Has Even Better Ways to

As well as new sculpts of the Chaos Space Marine PossessedandChaos Cultists, there were threebrand new, gruesomely mutated kits: the ‘Accursed Cultist Mutants’ and ‘Accursed Cultist Torments’. Meanwhile, there was confirmation of long-standing rumors that the World Eaters traitor legion would have their own codex, and brand new models. Use this Stratagem at the start of your Psychic phase. Select one HORRORS INFANTRY unit from your army. The first time that unit attempts to manifest a psychic power this phase, do not roll any dice for its Psychic test – instead, assume a 9 was rolled for that Psychic test. The rules here also specify very specifically that including KHORNE units in your army won’t turn off army-wide rules for World Eaters, NURGLE daemons won’t turn off army-wide rules for Death Guard, TZEENTCH units won’t turn off army-wide rules for Thousand Sons, and SLAANESH daemons won’t turn off army-wide rules for Emperor’s Children. This is very helpful for Death Guard and Thousand Sons, whose books currently do not have any wording that allows for Agents of Chaos without losing Contagions/Cabalistic Rituals. Serving as your right hand on the battlefield and beyond, the Codex also includes a host of rich lore surrounding the warp and it's ruinous powers plus plenty of stunning illustrations designed to wet your appetite for destruction.

Bonus! Chaos Space Marines Accursed Cultists and Possessed

Like the others, it’s full of army-specific datasheets, rules, and bespoke Crusade content for the Death Guard, the vile, disgustingly resilient sons of the dread Daemon Primarch Mortarion. Space Marines were always going to be the longest book, with their 8,000,000 different units and bountiful sub-faction rules – but the 9th Edition codex is a seriously chonky tome, incorporating a whole raft of new rules from the Psychic Awakening series and the Adeptus Astartes’ own new Crusade rules. Your Troops all gain ObSec, but with one catch: Swarm units don’t benefit from this rule. That means no ObSec for all of our lovable little Nurglings. Nurglings are still a fine unit because of other benefits they provide, so don’t fret just yet.

Whip Up the Storm of the Millennium With Codex: Chaos Daemons

Plague Banner (1 CP) charges up your Nurgle Icon units, having them do 1 mortal wound instead of their normal damage every time they roll a 6 to wound, to a max of 6 per phase.Use this Stratagem in your Charge phase when a BLOODLETTER CAVALRY unit from your army finishes a charge move. For each model in that unit, you can select one enemy unit within 1″ of that model and roll one D6; on a 2+, that enemy unit suffers 1 mortal wound; on a 6, that enemy unit suffers D3 mortal wounds. If these mortal wounds destroy all enemy units within 1″ of your unit, it can, if you wish, immediately declare another charge. You can re-roll charge rolls for KHORNE DAEMON units that are within 6″ of a friendly model with the Locus of Rage in the Charge phase. Codex: Chaos Daemons is a boiling cauldron of otherworldly viciousness, unleashing nightmare hordes that bring ruination to all who stand in their way. Of course, all four of the Dark Gods are represented in the new book – they just don’t dare show their faces on Khorne’s special day. Use this after a Chaos Character from your army summons a unit of Daemons using a Daemonic Ritual. That character can immediately attempt to summon a second unit of Daemons using Daemonic Ritual. Use this Stratagem at the start of the Morale phase. Select one enemy unit within 6″ of a FIENDS unit from your army. Until the end of the phase, subtract 2 from that enemy unit’s Leadership characteristic.

Codex: Chaos Daemons Emerges From a Tear in the Warp

If manifested, roll a D6 for every unit (excluding NURGLE units) within 7″ of the psyker. On a 4+ the unit being rolled for suffers D3 mortal wounds. Use this in your Command phase. Select LEGION DISCIPLES INFANTRY unit from your army that has not dedicated itself to a specific Dark God, and then select one of the pacts below. Until the start of the next Command phase, that unit has that pact. Legiones Daemonica detachments (detachments that contain only codex Daemons units, with the exception of Unaligned and Agents Of Chaos units) all gain pretty standard rules. If manifested, select a single friendly SLAANESH DAEMON unit within 18″ of the psyker that is within 1″ of an enemy unit. That unit can fight as if it were the Fight phase. If a CHARACTER with the DAEMON Faction keyword is your Warlord, it can generate a Warlord Trait from one of the following tables instead of the one in theWarhammer 40,000 rulebook. You can either roll on the appropriate table to randomly generate a Warlord Trait, or you can select the one that best suits theWarlord’s temperament and preferred style of warfare. Warlords can only generate Warlord Traits from their own Chaos God (e.g. KHORNE Warlords can only have a Khorne Warlord Trait). The Crusade rules in this book are really cool, and as usual we’ll be covering them on Tuesday – so stay tuned! The Five Best Things About This Book
