About this deal

A FUTURE WINE COMPANY We’re NICE, a UK based independent Future Wine Company, founded by Lucy Wright and Jeremy May in 2019. A Future Wine Company? What’s that?

Cloudy Bay has made a name for its fresh and intense wines, and a favorite among lovers of the brand is its 2019 Sauvignon Blanc. It’s made up of complex layers of guava, gooseberry, tropical fruits, and fresh herbs, coming together to create a delicious fruity white wine. Fires yet again devastated parts of California wine country in 2020. The immense impact this had on its wine regions and communities emphasizes that drinking wines from the state to enjoy and support its winemaking regions is tantamount. We’ve consumed some lovely bottles from the Golden State, from Merlot (sorry, “Sideways”), to Petite Sirah, to Zinfandel and Chardonnay. These selections show just how diverse and delicious California wine country can be. Chardonnay is the most popular wine varietal in North America and is characterized by its medium to full body and its buttery mouthfeel. It combines crisp flavors like apple and pear with citrus aromas and hints of vanilla. Malbec:We Brits are known for making crisp, elegant sparkling wines to rival Champagne. But did you know our cool climate and fertile soils, particularly in the South West, add up to the perfect growing conditions for some award-winning Pinot Noir too? Located in Macedonia in northwestern Greece, Alpha Estate has been creating delicious, sustainably made wines since 1997. This wine practically defines balance: The acidity is nearly perfect, letting the tart fruit flavors sing without overwhelming the palate; the texture is rich yet refreshing and not overly tannic; and it hugs the palate with notes of fruit and pepper. With flavors similar to Barolo, but at a much better value, this wine can be enjoyed now or aged in your cellar for a few more years. Either way, it is sure to be a memorable one.

Pinot noir, for example, prefers to grow in cooler temperatures and creates wines with earthy, herbal notes, and notable acidity. Shiraz, on the other hand, is mostly grown in moderate and warmer regions, has higher tannins, a little pepper and spice, and forest fruit flavours. A consistent award winner and most notably a Decanter Award Bronze medallist, this lush and generous red is predominantly a spicy Western Cape Shiraz, with a dose of deeply fruited Mouvedre and some light, floral Viognier for a balanced profile. Blind tasting: This allows for an unbiased evaluation of the wine and is when the identity of the wine is hidden from the taster. The 2016 is one to open now, with a crisp acidity that’s balanced through from the first sip to the last. Aged in stainless steel barrels, it’s a classic vintage Chardonnay that’s known for being one of the best and relatively easy to get hold of. Enjoy each of its tropical layers to really get a feel for the structure that makes up this bottle.Synthetic corks, which are made of plastic, can’t be recycled. They should be disposed of in your general waste bin. As travel has been restricted during the majority of this year, we’ve taken the opportunity to explore the world through wine. We traveled through Europe, stopping in Spain, Greece, Austria, France, and, most notably, Italy. In fact, three of our top 10 wines this year are from Sicily, a region that impressed us more than any other this year. Proof that Cabernet Franc can thrive in New York, this wine from the Finger Lakes region has inviting cherry and soil aromas, and is vibrant and juicy on the palate. This is another red that’s best served chilled (and paired with a burger). has been a year like no other at VinePair, in wine country, and beyond. But despite, or perhaps because of, the uncertainty this year has brought, the VinePair team has tasted thousands of wines over the last 12 months. Pour 30 to 60 ml (one to two ounces) of wine into a glass to taste it before serving. Swirl the wine in the glass, holding the stem, to expose it to a larger surface area. Smell the wine as you swirl it to release the flavors and varied aromas. A higher quality wine will offer different aromas the more it’s swirled.

Thought to be perhaps the best-ever wine produced by Catena, it’s dense and fresh, full-bodied and layered, flavorful and elegant all at once. It’s a wine to please the masses but a bottle that you’d be forgiven for saving for yourself. Featuring aromas of roses and pine needles with hints of spice and tobacco, it’s a wine that just keeps on giving. Enjoy it for its bold and structured notes. It’s a powerful wine with an impressively long finish, drawing out hints of star anise and savory spices with oak, chocolate, and vanilla to end. An elegant bottle, it promises creaminess on the palate and a stunning fruitiness with every mouthful.

The makers recommend eating with juicy sausages and burgers to balance out the dryness, but we also enjoyed it with cheese, charcuterie and chutneys, which worked nicely with the acidity. Selecting our overall best wine was no easy task but this 2016 Malbec is sure to be a winner no matter who’s pouring it. It’s an incredibly nuanced and detailed wine, promising depth and character from every sip. One of the highest-rated wines, it’s a critic’s favorite and a rich, aromatic bottle to delight family and friends over dinner. Cabernet Sauvignons are rich, robust red wines from the Napa Valley. These wines are full-bodied and are made up of dark fruit flavors mixed with spices and earthy aromas. It’s one of the world’s most widely recognized red wine grape varieties and is most commonly aged in French oak. Chardonnay:It’s an example of everything a good Zinfandel should be, combined with remarkable fruit flavors, a deep ruby-purple coloring, and a dash of acidity to round it off. This is a dynamic wine that’s ready to be enjoyed on a relaxing weekend. Malbec goes well with meat, especially beef. Taste varies depending on where the grapes are grown, but plums, berries and spices are common flavours. It’s sometimes blended with other varieties, but is often a soloist in Argentina.
