About this deal

Fixed an issue that could cause some WDM filters to fail to automatically populate on computer restart At Focusrite, we recognise the climate emergency that we’re living through, and are taking steps to reduce our environmental footprint as much as possible.

The Dynamic Range figure is around 110dB across the 3rd gen series for line, mic and instrument inputs (an improvement on the 2nd gen’s 106-109dB).The Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 (2nd Gen) is a 2 in / 4 out USB audio interface designed for digital recording applications, featuring two combination inputs with new Scarlett mic preamps and newly-designed instrument inputs. The Scarlett 2i4 (2nd Gen) improves every aspect of the original Scarlett 2i4's design boasting super low-latency, new metal gain controls and an improved design. The 4 outputs along with the MIDI connectivity also make the Scarlett 2i4 perfect for live use, allowing you to connect a range of external instruments such as outboard synths. As you can see from the table above, there are some noticeable improvements in the 3rd Gen. All specs considered, the inputs and outputs benefit from a wider dynamic range, gain ranges, and higher input and output levels. What Else Is New In The 3rd Gen? The Scarlett 2i4 has been improved tenfold with a range of new features and functions that improve performance and audio quality. One of the most prominent upgrades is the new super-low latency performance. The super-low roundtrip latency improves performance and efficiency by minimising the delay between the original signal and the processed signal on your computer. This is paramount when recording vocals or instruments as it gives you the ability to record signals as close to real-time as possible. Is the popping when turning the computer on fixed? Can I play from my speakers without turning on computer in some way?

Focusrite has done a great job with the new 3rd generation interfaces. While first glances may give the impression that they are just a prettier version of their former selves, the real magic lies under the hood. This is evident in many of the upgrades listed above. Latency wise: Focusrite points out: Scarlett 2nd and 3rd gen all abide by the USB 2 protocol. Plugging it in a usb3 slot does nothing more. It does not show as a usb3 device. I compared latency measures given on the Net for a 2i2 3rd gen with my 2i4 2nd gen. The latencies were lower on the 2i4 2nd gen. I bought a 4i4 3rd and gave my 2i4 2nd gen to my son (end of october 2020). I needed the 2 extra inputs for a small mixer (for three external synths). Equivalent Input Noise (EIN) < -120dB: measured at 55dB of gain with 150Ω termination (20Hz/22kHz bandpass filter)

Tje panel control is quite handy but it may be confusing for beginners. I still have problems on windows. It sometimes crashes. This morning I had to reset the panel to factory defaults many times to get a sound. Ok in the afternoon. Jet lag? Probably an unstable windows driver. MIDI input and output are included in Scarlett 2i4, allowing capture of performances with MIDI keyboards and controllers and the ability to play parts out to instruments and sound modules, recording their audio via Scarlett 2i4's TRS inputs. We make audio interfaces, and that's all we do. It's the job of an audio interface to sit between you and your sound being shared with the world, and we're the best in the world at making that happen.
