It wasnt the sight of Sanguinius that caused the Emperor to see Horus as irredeemable. It was a normal human Guardsman getting wasted while the Emperor was fighting Horus.

After more than 20 years of gripping novels the final moments of the Horus Heresy are in sight. Hundreds of characters have fought tooth and nail to reach this epic conclusion, and many millions more lie dead in their wake as worlds burn across the galaxy. The Emperor wants Sanguinius to stay because his wounds from Angron were grave but Sanguinius believes he is fated to die due to Horus. If he stays then that means Horus will kill the Emperor and then come to kill Sanguinius. But if Sanguinius is killed by Horus first it means the Emperor has a chance. Sanguinius however still wants to defy fate and kill Horus. Thats not how it went though. Then again, Abnett already retconned the Ol' arc that you are putting Sanguinius into...so who knows what else he will change.
