About this deal

We are delighted to welcome children under 16 in The Retreat when accompanied by an adult. To help us maintain a tranquil and peaceful environment we ask guests to adhere to the allotted child-friendly hours as listed. We also offer selected spa treatments for our younger guests when accompanied by an adult. I’m a huge Mark Edwards fan and have four of his other books sitting on my shelf. And even though this one may have fallen just a bit short for me...you know I’ll still be reaching for his next release!

Book Retreat Home - The Book Retreat

A spine-tingling setting, an unnerving cast of characters and so many incredibly creepy moments . . . this is not one to read before bed!”But when Lucas finally arrives at the retreat, he’s greeted with anything but the Zen peacefulness he was hoping for. Pearse’s engrossing debut boasts a highly atmospheric setting . . . This dark tale of family dynamics is sure to please suspense fans.”

The Retreat by Sarah Pearse | Waterstones

The CSI team thinks the time of death was early in the morning. Steed is rattled and tells Elin he had a family member die in a similar way. Alone and broke, Julia opens her house as a writers’ retreat. One of the first guests is Lucas, a horror novelist, who becomes obsessed with finding out what happened to Lily. But within days of his arrival, the peace of the retreat is shattered by a series of eerie events. Lunch, Thursday to Saturday, with the option of alfresco dining in the courtyard (weather permitting) The Katie in this book was a former child star in the hit detective show Shelby Space, now in her mid-twenties and washed up jumps at the chance to spend the weekend away with her brothers fiancée Ellie.Hana says she’s all alone now and Maya comforts her. Obviously Maya killed either Bea or Jo or both and it has something to do with the fire. Absolutely recommend when you are in the mood for a spooky atmospheric book filled with things that go bump in the night and some twists on top... Mark Edwards certainly knows how to write very good stories, this book is full of suspense, thrills and I am sure will be a big success. Julia's husband drowned trying to save their daughters life but her daughter's body was never found. Julia still has hope that her daughter is alive due to not finding her body. Julia has now converted their home into a writer's retreat (this is so awesome!!!) There are a good number of characters, and while it did take me awhile to get everyone straight, I found it challenging (in a good way) which gave a feeling of satisfaction upon finishing the book that may not have been there otherwise. The plot is complex, detailed, and slow burning in the beginning, but once I hit the halfway mark it was impossible to put down. I love this type of book, one that gives readers the chance to develop a base connection with the characters and a starting point for the suspense, while slowly ramping up the tension until WE JUST CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE DANG IT!
