There's no ignoring the dollar here. The asking price of the JaxJox KettlebellConnect would see most people in a well-equipped gym for a year or more. Likewise, full-body exercises that require you to control the kettlebell’s motion and position also require core stability. Examples include: I'm no professional kettlebell athlete but I'd wager good money anyone seriously into their classes would agree that the JaxJox unit just doesn't feel quite right.

Benefits of Kettlebells

Unfortunately, that's sort of where the experience stops, as it is up to the user to watch one of the many Vimeo-based workout videos (that often didn't work for us when used within the app) and kettlebell along with a guy in a strange orange room.

Standard kettlebells will go up in size as the weight increases. A 20-lb. (9-kg) kettlebell, for example, will be larger than a 10-lb. (4.5-kg) kettlebell. Kettlebell fans can simply use the JaxJox creation as a bog-standard kettlebell, adjusting the weight on the fly to make the exercise easier or harder, but it comes to life with the connected app. Finally, and slightly nannying-ly, a kettlebell isn't like a treadmill or an exercise bike, where the risk of injury among the uninitiated is fairly low. Here, you're literally swinging 19kg of metal between your legs and it's very easy to get things wrong. Call me a traditionalist but for that reason alone, I'd strongly suggest trying a good ol' fashioned, face-to-face class with a trained instructor before delving into the realm of JaxJox… JaxJox KettlebellConnect review: also consider As a rule of thumb, beginners should start with a single bell as they build up their confidence and ability, before moving on to two. It is perfectly possible to do most kettlebell exercises with just one bell, but those wanting to ramp up their fitness and strength as much as possible will be able to do this more effectively with a set. Material coating the kettlebellIf you’re using kettlebells in place of other strength training equipment, you’ll want to select a weight that’s similar to what you’d typically choose for a dumbbell or barbell. Generally speaking, you’ll need a heavier weight for lower body exercises and a lighter weight for upper body exercises. Pul the thing apart and you'll find a family of motion sensors, with a three-axis gyroscope and a three-axis accelerometer taking care of things. To control the motion of the kettlebell during a kettlebell swing, you have to engage your core to maintain proper form, which means you’re using all of the muscles from your hips to your shoulders. Kettlebells add resistance to exercises just like dumbbells and barbells do, so they’re primarily used for strength training.

But for now, it counts and collects reps, sets, weight used time spent exercising over a week and encourages you to do a bit more.

The verdict: Kettlebells

Thanks to their unique shape and size, kettlebells are a great choice for performing dynamic, functional exercises that help improve balance, coordination, power, agility, and core strength. They’re used for both full-body exercises and unilateral work. Upper body exercises

The unit itself sits on an electronic base with simple plus and minus buttons for adjusting the amount of weight secured inside the exterior shell. This unit has to be plugged into the wall but when fully charged, it last around 14 hours without a power source. Unsheathe the JaxJox from its relatively large box and the first thing to hit you is its size. Anyone who spends any time in the gym will know that the majority of kettlebells are fashioned from cast iron or something equally brutish, but they come in a spread if shapes and sizes. The bottom half of the kettlebell itself is elongated to house such a spread of weights, which makes it feel unbalanced and the internal weight plates rattle around a fair bit when in use. Top quality kettlebells are cast from a single piece of iron, while others have handles that are welded to the body. You’ll likely want a single casting if you’re buying a kettlebell that weighs more than 20 lbs. (9 kg). Handle Think about what you’ll be using your kettlebell for and whether a more ergonomic shape would be helpful as you’re using it. Your budgetKettlebells can add resistance to a wide variety of lower body moves in place of dumbbells, barbells, or medicine balls. You can also add an extra challenge by holding only one kettlebell at a time, which means you’ll have to use your core to stay balanced. Repeatedly putting down (or dropping) your kettlebells can do quite a bit of damage to your floors, so it’s always best to invest in a gym mat. It’s recommended to go for a heavy-duty rubber option rather than something thinner such as a yoga mat. The verdict: Kettlebells All kettlebells will have a flat bottom to rest on the floor, but many also have flat-ish sides to make certain movements, such as the overhead press or Turkish getup, easier on your forearms. However, the numerous workout videos do highlight just how versatile the thing is, with everything from rapid ten minute abs workouts to full-on 45-minute lung busters already live in the app. The benefit of Kettlebells in strength and endurance training is that you can achieve so much from just one piece of equipment. This is one of the main reasons why this form of fitness training continues to rise in popularity. They offer more flexibility both in terms of motion and the range of exercises you can perform – at minimal cost. They are also space efficient, making them convenient and highly popular. Kettlebell exercises focus more on the muscles you use for deceleration and stabilisation. They involve a swinging motion, holding the kettlebell in one hand or both. Unlike other types of training, you have to engage in whole body movements. You have to stabilise your body to perform effective movements and different exercises require you to engage different muscle groups including your core, hips and legs.
