About this deal

The author states how important is to submit to the authority of the Church, yet admits to performing thousands of unauthorized exorcisms. Obviously as seen above most of those were completely unnecessary. And he performed them in spite of disobeying the Church and his own admission that people with mental health issues might suffer from the wrong belief they are possessed reinforced by needlessly receiving an exorcism. Great job, father. In this instance Hollywood’s sensationalist depiction of exorcism does at least get the basics right. Amorth, Gabriele (2000). The Gospel of Mary: a month with the Mother of God. New York: Alba House. ISBN 0-8189-0871-8. OCLC 41439576.

However, prior to the movie’s theatrical release in April, the organization condemned the special effects–laden trailer, saying in a March 7 statement it “distorts and falsifies what is truly lived and experienced during the exorcism of truly possessed people.” Amorth’s Exorcism Accounts What works for one exorcist won't necessarily work for another but this doesn't matter because "facts do not change and the efficacy of a method cannot be discounted because the facts differ from someone else's experience."

This is a very good book. I don't recall it being much different than the prequel, but I enjoyed that very much so seemingly more of the same (to me) was no problem. Fr. Amorth's stated purpose in writing this book is to let people know that the devil is real, and the battle against him is ongoing. He hopes that bishops and other priests will again take seriously the difficult task of the exorcist and work to defeat the devil. He also reminds the general public of the reality of this problem, and how one may become subject to demonic influences. This includes even what most people think of as totally innocuous, such as the persistent use of foul language. Amorth's writing style remains accessible and engaging, allowing readers to easily connect with the subject matter. His storytelling abilities evoke a sense of tension, urgency, and empathy, creating an immersive reading experience. The author masterfully balances the gravity of the situations with a compassionate approach, ensuring that readers develop a genuine understanding of the struggles faced by those affected by possession. This perspective and the way it is communicated was so difficult to listen to, I just couldn't. I think this is only for people who have....either a very intense tolerance for outmoded perspectives, OR who are devoutly Catholic/Christian in a way that feels equally aggressive OR who are (sadly) hate-reading this, OR are reading this as an elaborate ghost story. I find this book to be mostly fear mongering. It contains major contradictions and inconsistencies, so I'm baffled how it's popular even among believers. However, I was pleased to find out there are catholics who agree with me. And he wasn’t opposed to being on camera, either. You can even watch him performing an exorcism. In 2016, Vanity Fair asked film director Friedkin to travel to Italy to write a story about Amorth. He became the first person to film the priest performing an exorcism and used the footage he gathered to make the 2017 documentary The Devil and Father Amorth.
