The three tequilas that form the core of the brand — a Blanco, Reposado, and an Anejo — are surprisingly delicious, with an easy drinking smoothness that makes up for the pervasive sweetness. But are they really worth the price? Or is it more Hollywood marketing at work? The brand has three expressions, but the Anejo Tequila is the only one that has aged for more than a year, making it resemble the taste of whiskey.Vanilla and oak really come through on the nose in the Casamigos Anejo, giving it considerably more richness than the rest of the range. This is welcomed in an Anejo, and those heavier notes open up to fruity aromas, and even a zip of orange citrus. Blanco is not aged in oak and will have more agave flavor than the others. Reposado tequila spends two months to a year in oak. Añejo spends one to three years in oak, and if you see a bottle marked "extra añejo," that spent more than three years in the barrel. There is no doubt that Casamigos Tequila is a good sipper, which is precisely what the founders are aiming for. A short to mid-length finish, the oak is lent character by the slight tobacco hints that can be tasted in the finish. The agave adds a light freshness, as do some pepper notes, but neither are particularly bold. Overall, an easy finish, with no brashness, and no burn. It is an expensive bottle of tequila that we prefer to drink neat and enjoy its flavors without any mixers or having it toned down. It has that short finish with almost no lingering burn, making this tequila a good choice for newbies. Second Chance
