The rash can be widespread anywhere on the head and body or may only show up as a few spots. They are most likely to appear on the face, ears and scalp, under the arms, on the chest and belly, and on the arms and legs. Your child will be contagious from about two days before the rash appears until all the blisters have fully crusted over, which is usually five to six days after the start of the rash. The virus produces a rash of small, itchy red spots that turn into fluid-filled blisters. The blisters then dry out, forming scabs that eventually drop off. If you’re very itchy, you can also try taking the antihistamine chlorphenamine (eg Piriton®). You can buy this medicine over the counter from a pharmacy. If the blisters do become infected (for example, if the area around them is red or swollen or if there is pus or fluid oozing out), see your doctor immediately. Dr Organic also claims it uses a “bioactive” type, which means it actually also has a positive, active effect. This is worth spotlighting as not all aloe vera varieties have medicinal properties. There are about 50 spots in total, varying in size from about 1mm to 1cm. Some are 1cm to 3cm apart, but others are further apart.
