A separate studio recording of Lord Lloyd-Webber's coronation anthem will also be released on May 6, as well as the live recording from the ceremony itself. The choral forces, brilliantly led by Westminster Abbey's organist and master of the choristers Andrew Nethsingha, are extraordinary, and include the Choir of Westminster Abbey, the Choir of His Majesty’s Chapel Royal, St James's Palace, choristers from Truro Cathedral Choir and choristers from the Chapel Choir of Methodist College Belfast. Also appearing are the Monteverdi Choir, the Ascension Choir and the Byzantine Chant Ensemble. The service commences with a majestic performance of I was glad by Hubert Parry, a favourite composer of the monarch’s, written for the coronation of his great-great-grandfather King Edward VII in 1901. Her previous work includes the wedding of the then-Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in 2011 and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in 2018. Music by the likes of William Byrd (1543–1623), George Frideric Handel (1685–1759), Sir Edward Elgar (1857–1934), Sir Henry Walford Davies (1869–1941), Sir William Walton (1902–1983), Sir Hubert Parry (1848–1918) and Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872–1958) has historically featured in the Service over the past four centuries and will be included in the programme along with the music of one of Britain’s most loved and celebrated living composers, Sir Karl Jenkins. The coronation album will be produced by world-renowned classical record producer, Anna Barry, who has produced over 500 recordings of distinction over 35 years. The ceremony will feature a range of musical styles and performers, blending tradition, heritage and ceremony with the new musical voices of today to reflect the King's life-long support of music and the arts. Italian maestro Sir Antonio Pappano, who is music director at the Royal Opera House, conducted the Coronation Orchestra, a blend of musicians from orchestras of the former Prince of Wales’ Patronages including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Royal Opera House Orchestra and Welsh National Opera Orchestra. She said: “This will be a truly historic recording, capturing a glorious range of music from across centuries and continents, reflecting the world-wide interest in our traditions, covering multiple locations in the wonderful acoustic of Westminster Abbey, and involving an unprecedented technical plan to present the entire experience to the world on the day itself. Mealor’s ‘Coronation Kyrie’ was the first Welsh language work to be performed at a Coronation. On the ground-breaking piece, Mealor said: “It is a cry from the deep soul of the hills and valleys of Wales for hope, peace, love and friendship.” Andrew Nethsingha, Organist and Master of the Choristers, Westminster Abbey, will be overseeing all musical arrangements and directing the music during the Service. When the Archbishop of Canterbury places the crown on the King's head at 12 noon, trumpets will sound, accompanied by gun salutes. The concert will see a world-class orchestra play a host of musical favourites and will also feature, for the first time ever, a joint performance from The Royal Ballet, The Royal Opera House, the Royal Shakespeare Company, The Royal College of Music and The Royal College of Art. The official Royal Harpist Alis Huws will perform as part of the Coronation Orchestra in recognition of The King’s long-standing and deeply held relationship and affiliation with Wales. One of the liturgical sections of the ceremony will also be performed in Welsh. At the request of His Majesty, in tribute to his late father His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, Greek Orthodox music will also feature in the Service performed by the Byzantine Chant Ensemble.
