About this deal

Apart from some slight tearing on the medial side of the upper, which could be because of wear and tear and also might be from of the salt on city streets eating away at the mesh.

New Balance FuelCell Rebel v2 Review | Running Shoes Guru

One notable aspect of the FuelCell product line is that the foam compound may all be FuelCell, but the formulation varies, and it results in a varying underfoot feel. I find some are far less exciting than others, fortunately this is the most lively of the bunch. It’s very soft and bouncy and feels like the top of the line racer – the RC Elite. Fit: A (Very dialed in throughout, wider toe box is very nice and comfortable, mesh is breathable and lightweight while still being comfortable for a training shoe, pull tab is really the only thing and that isn't a deal breaker) New Balance characterizes Fuel Cell as follows: " The Fuel Cell family is our line of performance, speed and rebound driven shoes but contrary to popular belief is not a midsole compound thus the vastly different rides of different shoes within the family." Imma keep going, so T Swizz, take a seat. The upper fits so well that when you drop the hammer in a workout, it seamlessly moves with you in total comfort. I wasn’t a fan of the odd-shaped tongue at first, but by the time I am writing this, I have come to appreciate the way it fits into the form. The heel counter is gentle on the heel/Achilles while it holds the rear of your foot securely in.

New Balance FuelCell Rebel V2 Conclusion

As far as the FuelCell in the Rebel v2, rest assured that you’re getting the very best New Balance has to offer. If you’ve tried the carbon plated TC, you know the feeling. Impossibly responsive, propelling you forward through each step. Stability: B- (Really soft platform with only mild stability elements, the shoe is relatively soft and flexible throughout and may give some trouble, but good for a lightweight performance shoe this soft) Even though it has lost some of its original DNA, I’m still happy about the direction that New Balance has taken with it because I make more use of it as a daily trainer than a speedwork trainer- it doesn’t have the snappy punch that I like in a speed trainer. The FuelCell Rebel 2 running shoe probably won't help you shave much time, if any, off your personal records, and yet, this shoe can handle most of what you throw at it. It's a perfect all-around option to lace up several times a week for various paces and skill levels. Should You Buy the New Balance FuelCell Rebel v2? This is due to the lateral “wing” which flares out at the midfoot and forefoot and pushes your foot inward. This “wing” is not as prominent as on the Rebel V1 but it still results in medial side lean bias.

New Balance FuelCell Rebel v2 review - RunRepeat

An asymmetric split in the upper combined with offset lacing—reversed compared to what we’ve seen in the Nike Vaporfly Next%— works well. Pressure is evenly distributed across the top of the foot, and there are no noticeable hotspots. On the other hand, doing an easy 5-mile run at a purposefully casual pace was joyous. There were no aches in my feet, no prodding from the upper or any kind of discomfort to speak of. While these aren't plush recovery run shoes, they definitely lean slightly more toward the slower and steady pace. For any runs over five miles when speed isn't the goal, my eyes always glance at these New Balance shoes as ones to use. The v2 is more breathable and probably more durable than the original. A short, perforated tongue is a great touch and vast improvement over last year’s model. The heel collar has just enough padding to add comfort without being intrusive. Even the lacing system is upgraded, thanks in part to the amount of lace provided. The v1 had you double and triple tying to get rid of giant overhanging loops. This shoe is much simpler and flat out better.Sally : The Rebel 2 is a fantastic and FUN daily trainer that will stand out for me as the shoe to beat in 2021. It is a comfortable, well-fitting, bouncy yet forgiving shoe that can handle any and all paces. It thrives on uptempo paces, but has a peppy springy ride that makes any pace enjoyable. Not everyone wants or needs or can afford a carbon-plated shoe, and this shoe is there for them. I heartily endorse the Rebel 2 as a neutral trainer that will please the runner in you. The Nike Mayfly was designed to be the original disposable running shoe. Named after the Mayfly – an insect that lives its full life in 24 hours – the Nike shoe was supposed to last a marathon and self-destruct. Or at least, that was the idea. Nike is always good at story telling. The fit is simply excellent—the TC and RC Elite also fit me very well so those who have tried those can be confident in the Rebel v2. It is perfectly true to size for my medium width foot and comfortable despite minimal padding. The shoe is very flexible on foot and the unstructured upper lets it bend easily. Underfoot it is soft and if I lean around on my foot I can feel it compressing where I’m weighting it. Overall, there isn’t a massive difference between the 2 versions so if you want to buy v2 at a heavily discounted price, you have my blessing. It’s lightweight, soft, responsive, grips well, and priced reasonably for its level of tech. Hey, there’s even an optional width and a size US 16 available.

Michael: Is this our biggest review ever and the one with the one testers? There’s a reason so many of our runner-testers want to put down words about the Rebel v2 - it’s simply awesome. Find out more! The Rebel v2 doesn’t feel like a tempo trainer anymore because of how soft and flexible it is. All the shoes mentioned above are better shoes for speedwork.

SHOES SIMILAR TO THE NEW BALANCE FUELCELL REBEL V2

Our initial reservations about the grip quality were dispelled by the on-road performance. The flat lugs offer excellent traction, including damp roads. Derek: I wear US9.5 in both shoes. Rebel is definitely the better shoe for me, than any of the Beacon versions. Rebel is softer and bouncier and is just an overall easier and more fun riding shoe, and also has the added advantage of being a better fitting shoe than Beacon 3 for me. There is a small amount of padding around the collar and the heel but overall it’s a really minimal, light upper. Unlike standard EVA foam or even rubber-blend materials like the Nike React, the New Balance Fuelcell foam did not stiffen in the cold and retained its cushioned bounciness.
