About this deal

The author takes the reader through many gripping and entertaining scenarios that ‘Fluke’ encounter while going through the confusions and quests caused by the lingering memories in his mind; memories which take him through his life towards an unknown destination and a surprising and pleasant climax. To be frank, by the time we got to the perfunctory, rushed ending I had kind of lost my interest in it. But there’s all kinds of natural disasters and a sense that they’re all connected and it takes a grizzled scientist to work out what’s going on, and to stop an evil witch from New Orleans who’s thrown into the mix for some reason.

When I was a teen I can remember reading Clive Cussler. Now maybe I’m doing a disservice to nautical Clive, but for me he became the benchmark of this kind of uninspiring thriller. He ran his fingers downwards through the small, tidy forest of hair until he found her other even more moist cave, silky smooth with its aroused lubricity. Now, almost three years since his relocation, and thirty-four-year-old Childes was finally feeling reasonably secure in his new life. After giving up a very prosperous career, Childes was now working as a freelance IT teacher for the handful of private schools located on the island. And it’s at the La Roche all-girls school where he had met with twenty-three-year-old French teacher Aimee Sebire, of whom he had slowly begun to build up a close relationship. A relationship that had taken a while to come to fruition solely because of Childes’ ingrained commitment issues.

The main character is basically a guy who teaches computing to schoolkids and who ends up teaching at a girl’s school on an island as he tries to get away from his past. He has some psychic powers, despite the fact that he doesn’t really believe in them, and he finds himself witnessing all sorts of horrible things, including some brutal killings. Our protagonist Childes has fled to this island "from the terrors of his past" , fighting his demons (don't they all!!!) while trying to maintain his relationship his Amy! Oh, did I tell you that he also get visions of horrible murders and mutilations. Then people in his vicinity start dying, bodies keep pilling up and finally get to the climax -- which was very abrupt in my opinion. He is one of our greatest popular novelists, whose books are sold in thirty-three other languages, including Russian and Chinese. Widely imitated and hugely influential, his novels have sold more than 55 million copies worldwide. Eventually, he’s found by a junkyard dark names Rumbo and takes up with him. Rumbo introduces him to the junkyard owner, known as the “The Guvnor”. Here the narrator finally acquires his name “Fluke” when one of the Guvnor’s gangster friends discovers the dog can play a complicated street game. The Guvnor is described as having attributes which are equally cruel and kind. He keeps the dogs around and occasionally feeds them, but ties lLuke up in the rain when the dogs accidentally bring the cops into the junk yard. Although the overall plot is relatively straight forward, undoubtedly fleshed-out by a hefty amount of characterisation and sub-plot padding, the reader nevertheless feels like they are following quite an unnecessarily meandering storyline. Furthermore, this reasonably stuttered delivery far from plays to the author’s undoubted strengths at ploughing ever onwards with an enthralling and fast-paced or highly-involved storyline. Instead, with ‘Moon’ we are left simply pondering far too often, without enough horror taking root in the unveiling storyline to really get the reader engaged. It seems that balls of light, sometimes one and sometimes many are "portents" to disastrous events. There is plenty of weather destruction in the book, from volcanic eruptions and explosions...hurricanes, tornadoes, tsunamis, forest fires and killer hailstorms.
