About this deal

Perhaps having read a few more classical and cliche counterparts would have given me some context to view the book in a different light, but I must now play the hand I've been dealt. Jin Rou (Originally known as Jin Rou, his name is reversed part way through Volume 1 to obfuscate his trail from potential enemies from the Cloudy Sword Sect.

Big D the rooster is fun, sure, but Chunky stole my heart and Tigger shouldered her way in somehow as well. A transmigrator from 21st century Canada who takes over the life of a young cultivator from the Cloudy Sword Sect, named Jin Rou, after his death. On its own, Beware of Chicken is a slice of life with the main cast formed mainly out of cultivators and spirit beasts. The plot and the conflicts within are organic to the characters motivation, and the resolution has so far never crept into Deus ex territory. It turns out that being kind and gentle pays dividends that he's not even seeking and I found that very engaging. They mostly live around the Tangle Thicket, where they use their heavy armor to ignore the massive spines that the enormous shrubs produce. This book was easily the most joyful book I have read in as long as I can remember, and I honestly consider it to be an absolute masterpiece.

Remembering his old life causes him such discomfort that he prefers to avoid thinking about it altogether. His sister followed, a bit more sedately, behind him with the teapot and a pair of cups, a brilliant smile on her face as she watched him run. He closed his eyes, letting his Qi flow from his body and painting the building-sized rock like he had a hundred times before. The MC is not some weak willed stupid feminist ideology twit that seems to be popular in a lot of books now days) +1 for Strong smart male character. These creatures resemble massive, spiked armadillos, and have a habit of Sonic Spin-Dashing at people. But it just so happens that working on his farm gives him amazing Chi powers and makes him a much stronger fighter.

Jin is strong and kind despite the history in this world generally saying a cultivator is a horrendous person, so anyone who meets him is pleasantly surprised. The story contains both a progressive farm building aspect, and a deeper, facinating contemplation of morality in a cultivation world. The key thing this book does right is that it focuses on what fantasy as a genre offers when at it's at its best; wonder and joy. Apart from a rocky first chapter that seems to rush through the initial scenes (which may be by design), the book really started to pull me in.The story is told partly in first person but often moves to other points of view, even within the same chapter.
