About this deal

There are several schools; including Abbey Road Juniors, a primary school; Sunnybank Comprehensive, the local state school and St Oswald's Grammar School, the independent boys' grammar school which is the setting for Gentlemen and Players. blueeyedboyis a dark and intricately plotted tale of a poisonously dysfunctional family, a blind child prodigy, and a serial murderer who is not who he seems. Most of his online interaction is with Albertine, with whom in the real world he shares a troubled past. She is an honorary Fellow of St Catharine's College, Cambridge, and in 2022 was awarded an OBE by the Queen. million copies worldwide, been translated into 25 languages, and won both the Melissa Nathan Award and Romantic Novel of the Year 2013.

Still living at home at forty-two, a janitor in a local hospital, he hates himself, hates his life and yet he has managed both to retain his sense of humour and to re-create himself online as the person he would rather be, instead of the born loser he really is.There is a great deal of snobbery, and there is bitter rivalry between the state school and St Oswald's, the grammar school. I’d been going through some troublesome times, and my sunny disposition had taken something of a blow. Most of the story is told through postings on ‘badguysrock’, an internet forum and Harris exploits to the full our ability to hide behind fictional personas when we interact on-line. Because of the tone and subject matter of the book there are naturally going to be one or two unsavoury characters, but I found that I didn’t like any of them. Emily, the little blind girl appears to be a synaesthete also but she seems to experience music as colours.

Disappointing as after enjoying Gentleman and Players her first psychological thriller, I expected more from this one. To compensate for the absence of visual reference in some parts of the novel I found myself dwelling much more on the book’s soundtrack - including the voices of my main characters, and of the “little army of mice” that make up Blueeyedboy’s friends-list.The blog is dedicated to 'villains throughout the fictional universe' and has about a dozen followers.

Anyway, better to get this out of the way at the beginning – there is no chocolate, no magic, no wine, no fruit except for some rotten fruit juice. I had some ideas laid out at the start, but the main reveal – the whammy – surprised me as much as anyone else. She explored the issue in Gentlemen and Players and has extended her complex study of it in her dark new novel, Blueeyedboy.

What is the lie she told when she was young, and how did it influence her life and that of those around her? In this story, as in life, the toughest question to answer truthfully is always going to be: Who am I?

I see it now – like Gentlemen and Players, its close relative – as a kind of murder-mystery with no detective, no apparent crime and a couple of quite unreliable narrators – Joanne Harris with a twist.

I am not I do not think of a sensitive disposition and I was not terrified as the back cover suggested I might be, I just simply did not enjoy it! The format itself is an unreliable sort of style: it's presented as an online journal-type site, very much like LiveJournal and its offspring, and we all know that people there can fictionalise their lives as much as they want. A prima vista sembra quasi un approfondimento psicologico di un assassino, ma la questione è molto più complessa.
