I actually had better luck where the finish was more worn, so it may be just what your cabinets need. I am going to put beadboard on the sides and then I can stain it to match or paint it a color to accent the kitchen! Your best bet may be to get some wax and try it out on a space that is not obvious, like the back of a cabinet door.
