About this deal

Please can you help or advise me where I can get this information from as one of my engineers says that you do and I just wanted to double check. The fish key should be used rather than switching off the mains lighting power, which may be hazardous to other occupants.

emergency lighting be tested? | Fire How often should emergency lighting be tested? | Fire

In a system with a single switch for the entirety of the building or a large circuit, it is important for the responsible person to walk the entirety of the building or circuit to check that all the lights are working correctly and that there are no signs of damage to the light fitting. When doing so, the primary lighting circuit must be switched off and emergency lights left on for three hours in line with BS 5266-1. It is this commitment to first class equipment that has made us one of the leading providers of fire alarms and other safety equipment. The test switch is a safe way to cause a permanent mains failure to the emergency fittings for both the monthly function test and annual duration test.During this period the light levels will be a lower level of illumination when in emergency mode and depending how long it would take you to walk the emergency lights would it be safe for the relevant persons occupying the building? When using self testing hardware (with each light running on a separate circuit) do I still need to be able manually switch off the power to each unit independently or can I rely solely on the self test feature to comply with BS 5266? Absolutely Ian, you cannot usually give definitive answers, only be general, because there is so many different situations you have to consider.

Emergency Lighting Test Key Switches | Safe Fire Direct

This advice and guidance article provides advice on how often you should get your emergency lighting tested, and how to test your emergency lighting. Emergency escape lighting provides illumination for people who need to exit a building in an emergency, such as a fire or a power cut.

Once the mains supply is off you need to walk past all the emergency lights to ensure they are working. The monthly emergency lighting tests, also known as the ‘flick tests’, are a short functional test simulating failure of the mains power supply which ensures the lamp switches on and illuminates correctly. For the annual test, the requirements for emergency lighting are to test for a duration of three hours. The results of all testing and any necessary corrective action can be recorded in your fire safety logbook.
