The S5600’s newly designed lens produces excellent results at all focal lengths, with good corner sharpness and minimal distortion.
One reason for this is the zoom control, which has swapped places with the power switch, changing from being two fiddly buttons on the back to a nice rotary control around the shutter button. The AF system is nice and quick too, at least in good light, locking on in less than half a second in most circumstances. Similarly, the 10x zoom is very useful and although some purple fringing appears at full zoom (under certain lighting conditions) the resulting images are by no means spoiled.
