About this deal

A simple and effective way to help your child to learn these important words is to encourage them to read regularly. The words on the Fry list span a vast vocabulary, from straightforward nouns like "the" and "and" to more intricate concepts like "information" and "communication. Our lovely teacher and design teams have updated this resource and you can now download the new version. Beginning in Reception, children will be given around 45 high frequency words to learn over the course of the year to recognise and read.

Each high-frequency word has an interactive mat which KS1 children can complete with support or independently. The four separate passages include sentences with the high frequency words from phase 2, phase 3, phase 4 and phase 5.Each high-frequency word has its own dedicated resource pack which includes tracing activities, writing activities and highlighting activities. If you liked this resource you might want to check out this lovely high frequency sight word cut-outs. Learning how to read high frequency words is super important as they will make up a large proportion of the words your child will encounter in everyday texts. Perfect for working through over the course of a term, this booklet is an engaging and enjoyable way to make sure that you are teaching all 100 words. The Fry list is extensive and focused on word frequency, whereas the Dolch list concentrates on commonly used words that are not easily decodable by phonics.

This printable provides a comprehensive list of the first 100 sight words, which are high-frequency words commonly used in reading and writing.Whilst adding plenty of variety for children, they approach the topic in a number of ways to target different aspects, such as memory, spelling and children's ability to form clear sentences. I have a similar resource for the yr3/4 exception words, but can't find the one for the first 100 HFWs. Then, at the end of each block of 10, there is a short consolidation activity to reward your child for their hard work. To involve kids in the learning process, these resources frequently combine visuals, audio, and interactive activities. In addition to this, we have created an A4 version of the First 100 High-Frequency Words Activity Booklet which you can print as separate pages or as a booklet (depending on your printer settings).

So once a child has learned to say a few basic words, it’s time for us to start expanding their vocabulary to include a range of words. As they read or hear the sight words, have them jump, clap, or do something else that corresponds to the word. He examined a big body of text and determined the most prevalent words, which account for 90% of words used in reading and writing on a daily basis. Fry, an educational psychologist, and professor at Rutgers University, developed the Fry sight word list.

Our checklist of the 100 highest frequency words makes it easy to record young children's progress in reading and writing common words ahead of their end of year Phase 1 Assessment for the Letters and Sounds Scheme. I can see this being useful - I'll ask our design team to look into making the next 200 frequency words version for you. Therefore, by learning about them thoroughly in English classes, children can improve their spoken communication skills and feel better understood when communicating ideas. It is the perfect morning work, guided reading or filler activity to improve spelling and reading of the first 100 high-frequency key words. You might want to use it for an upcoming spelling test or generally practising High Frequency Words. If a child has completed Phase 1-5 phonics study by the end of Year 1, they should be able to accurately read all the words likely to be included in the assessment. This 100 high-frequency words bumper pack is full of wonderful resources for you to use during your KS1 lessons.
