About this deal

He was the distillery manager from 1995 to 1998, and from then head of distilling and whisky creation for everything in the Glenmorangie Company’s portfolio. Were it to come to the US, it would likely run into naming issues because, as WhiskyCast recently pointed out, American distillery High West already has a whiskey with the exact same name that it has the trademark to. The marriage of these two parcels creates a single malt whisky which displays the balance between an underlying sweetness and a rich, spicy, nutty top-layer. The creation of this whisky is said to have been inspired by “the long held tradition where The Sixteen Men of Tain (those who worked at the distillery year round) were treated with a special whisky in the festive season created by the Master Distiller as a thank you for their role in the creation of Glenmorangie. Celebrating the tradition of The Sixteen Men of Tain who received a special whisky in the festive season.

Glenmorangie celebrates winter with limited edition release

A lightly peated release from Glenmorangie, this expression explores the distillery’s past, paying tribute to the historic use of a peat fired kiln. Taste: A rich, warming, peppery texture leading into myriad flavours of chocolate orange, ginger, walnuts, praline and some sweet butter candy. The Cadboll is a Glenmorangie single malt originally released for the Travel Retail market which was initially aged in bourbon casks before enjoying a finishing period in casks that once held Muscat and Sémillion wines.Extra: Eagle eyed whisk(e)y folk may have noted a slight clash of title with High West Distillery’s version of the same named whisky.

It is a no-age statement whisky that was aged in ex-Bourbon casks before being finished in ex-Oloroso Sherry Spanish oak casks.

This Glenmorangie was first released in 2015 and is a mixture of bourbon and oloroso sherry matured whisky. Unveiled in August 2021, this expression from the Glenmorangie Distillery brings together the fruit-forward fabulousness of Glenmorangie's single malt with the rich, spicy depth imparted by Cognac casks! Reflecting the infamous Scottish winter, a ‘Midwinter Night’s Dram’ unites whisky matured in the finest quality Bourbon casks made from American white oak, delivering Glenmorangie’s classic house-style which is smooth and soft with notes of citrus, vanilla and almonds.

Glenmorangie: A Midwinter Night’s Dram – The Whisky Ninja Glenmorangie: A Midwinter Night’s Dram – The Whisky Ninja

Glenmorangie Midwinter Nights Dram has been matured in select Bourbon casks made from American white oak, delivering Glenmorangie’s classic house-style which is smooth and soft with notes of citrus, vanilla and almonds. Unfortunately for those of us not in the British Isles, A Midwinter Night’s Dram was a UK-only exclusive. It first matures in bourbon casks before being moved over to Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks for a finishing period. The process of making Glenmorangie whisky starts with hard water from Tarlogie Springs and an unpeated Scottish barley. This discontinued Glenmorangie Midwinter Nights Dram Limited Edition whisky is inspired by the great Scottish winters. A Glenmorangie finished in sherry casks that demonstrates clearly the effects finishing can have on a whisky.

Review: Glenmorangie ‘A Midwinter Night’s Dram’ | SWB

The Glenmorangie distillery, and its 8 metre high stills were established on the shores of the Fornoch Firth in 1843, and is known for never using casks more than twice (although I’ve never managed to find out if that means twice as whisky casks, which is probable, or twice in totality). Glenmorangie's Tarlogan is their third expression in the Legends series that was originally released for the Travel Retail market. This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch! This was followed in the early ‘90s by a Port cask-finished whisky and then a plethora of other cask finishes like Madeira, sherry and Sauternes. The company already owned Glen Moray, bought back in 1923, and various blended whisky brands including the much-loved Bailie Nicol Jarvie. It is arguably Dr Lumsden’s scientific approach to both the whisky, and the wood in which it is aged, that has made Glenmorangie the brand that it is today; a leader in wood selection and in finishing whiskies in secondary cask types. Palate: Much the same as the nose, but with some added almonds and citrus peel – and perhaps just a slight touch of cinnamon and vanilla.
