About this deal

But even on the level playing field of the pale orange bar (where output is equalised to 1080p across the board) the Moto G50 goes toe-to-toe with all comers, only narrowly missing out to the marvellous Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC (note: we couldn’t get GFXBench working on the Redmi Note 9T, so it’s omitted here. Even “high end” in-screen ones offer no huge functional benefit over a good, cheaper rear-mounted one like the Moto G50’s. display with a 90Hz refresh rate, a 5000mAh battery that provides up to two days of juice, a triple camera system, 5G connectivity, and more. While the moto G50 has amazing battery life, the 10W wired charger included with the handset is a let-down and takes several hours to charge the phone to its full capacity. The front-facing camera is fine at 13MP, and carefully placed in a small notch, avoiding stealing any focus.

It feels smooth in your hands thanks to some curved edges and it all feels simply fine if a little plasticky. Text appears slightly softer, although two weeks in I can’t say I’m left wishing I could stop using the Moto G50 and go back to a 1080p best phone.I like a glass-backed phone, but stick the bundled silicone case on the Moto G50 and whether it’s made of glass and metal or plastic makes very little difference. This won't be a budget camera to wow photographers, and we're left wondering how come the cheaper Moto G30 manages to squeeze in an ultra-wide lens. On the back there's the Motorola logo, which also doubles up as the fingerprint sensor, and the three camera lenses are bundled up to the left hand side. When we ran a Geekbench 5 test on the moto G50 – which measures how well your device would perform during everyday use – it came back with a 501 single-core score and a 1568 multi-score score.

Images come out looking reasonably pleasant but there are issues with a certain lack of depth and also the restrictions that come from a digital-only zoom. The Motorola Moto G50 uses the Snapdragon 480 CPU, which sees 5G drop down to the lower tiers of Qualcomm Snapdragon processors. But judging by my experience it even outlasts top performers like the Oppo A54 5G, perhaps because it has a 720P screen rather than a 1080p one. For starters, Apple only announced its first 5G-capable smartphones late last year in the form of the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro. But if you plan on using this handset for compute-intensive activities like gaming or streaming, you might notice a laggier performance. Over the past few years, Motorola has announced a wide range of entry-level and mid-range Android smartphones under the moto branding.

Not only that, it also has a built-in stand that you can adjust to your own liking and experience hands-free movie watching. Video recording is a choice of 1080p at 30fps or 60fps with either front or back camera, and it's pretty speedy at getting going too. LCD 90Hz display, 4GB of RAM, a massive 5000mAh battery, and powered by Snapdragon 480 5G octa-core processor. The case also comes with a screen protector to provide added protection to the screen while giving you the same original viewing quality. With 5,000mAh to pack all the juice in and 15W charging, it does the job and you won't have to worry about recharging quite as often as with some other cheap phones. In classic Moto G series style, the Moto G50 does many of the core things well enough to keep you satisfied. This isn’t particularly distracting, however, except on the chin where it stretches to a couple of millimetres in width. The case is designed with high-quality TPU to protect your phone from all angles and the raised edges around the camera and screen keep it safe from drops, shocks and scratches.
