About this deal

If you do need to use the lens on a tripod, just use the camera tripod mount instead, as your camera mount will easily be able to handle the lens even with teleconverters attached. I’m surprised to see how well the lens does at 105mm – all corners look pretty sharp with no difference between the crops.

The lens sports the second generation VR II (vibration reduction) technology, offering camera shake compensation equivalent to a shutter speed increase of approximately four stops, allowing to shoot at slower shutter speeds without introducing camera shake.ED VR aims to give you the best of both worlds, combining a compact and lightweight design optimised for APS-C cameras with extra telephoto reach. Because the lens is so light, you don’t have to lay it on your left hand entirely when hand-holding, so you can completely avoid touching the focus ring. Although the diaphragm closes down to minimum aperture when the lens is detached from the camera, if the dust goes into the lens, it will get through the hole onto the last glass element that sits in front of the diaphragm. If you keep it in the 55 -200 range its pretty sharp as long as your stop down in F-8 to F-11 in the 300 range sharpness drops off you have to be in F8-F11 to get decent sharpness also its a little slow to focus and lock this is a basic kit lense but with a metal mount but it's light and plastic. Note that most zoom lenses are prone to the same issue as above, including some of the professional lenses.

This is unfortunate because this means that dust and other debris could end up in your camera and your lens. I bought this as an inexpensive backup for my 70-300, and was surprised at how close its performance is to the bigger lens. How does this comport with the claim in the link I edited into the OP that the 70-300 has superior autofocus performance? The single ring on the lens is made out of plastic and has a rubber layer on top of it for a better grip. Corners look all the same to me in terms of sharpness, with a slight amount of visible purple fringing in the corners. Not only will the hood protect the lens, but it will also do what it is supposed to – which is block sun rays from reaching the front element.
