About this deal

The Leica 10x42 Noctivid binoculars offer up Schott HT (High Transmission) glass, 12 lens elements and P40 phase-corrected roof prisms, along with anti-reflective multi-coatings to both maximize light transmission and prevent water or any other nasties sticking to the lenses. Let’s dive in to learn more about these specs and discover if it is the perfect pair of general-purpose binoculars for you!

The ability to get a close focus on nearby objects as well as a reasonably wide field of view makes the Celestron Nature DX ED 12x50 binoculars useful for a wide range of outdoor uses. We can imagine the cheap plastic front caps being easily mislaid; luckily an additional spare pair was included in the box with our review sample. An extendable eye relief provides comfort for spectacle wearers, as do a dioptric adjustment ring, flip-down lens cap, and a new strap mount. The Nikon Monarch HG 10x30 binoculars are not only compact and relatively portable at 450g, but the magnesium alloy build also has the benefit of being water and fog-proofed too. You can expect them to last for years, thanks to their shockproof rubber armor coating and polycarbonate chassis reinforced with fiberglass. With a polycarbonate body reinforced with fiberglass, the Nikon PROSTAFF 3S 10×42 is pretty heavy-duty. They deliver quality images in broad daylight, but will fall off in quality when used in low-light conditions.

They feature a wide objective lens of 42mm with 8x and 10x variants, are lightweight and easy to carry around with their compact bodies. Incredibly lightweight and soft to the touch, the Nikon Prostaff 3s binoculars have a rubber-armored coating to provide a non-slip design in all types of weather.

Next up, as its ‘royal’ name suggests the Nikon Monarch family is the premium-grade flagship option.

While performance isn’t quite up there with Nikon’s own premium Monarch HG range in terms of clarity and sharpness, and we did notice the odd instance of purple fringing in contrast-y situations, it’s certainly ‘good enough’. All the binoculars in the Prostaff series that is the Prostaff 3s and 7s employ roof prism arrangements. They feature fully broadband multi-coated lenses, a twist up eyecup, and the same exceptional waterproof and fogproof housing unit found in many Celestron models. Inevitably they’re slightly heavier and bigger than the closest 10x30 model in the same series, though.

Carrying both the Prostaff 3s model 10X42 and 7s 10X42 model binoculars side by side, to the bitterly cold outdoors, Neither fogged up a bit going from the warmth of my home.It wasn't terrible, but I can see how adding another pound would really limit what I can do with these, no matter how great and crisp the views are. The Nikon PROSTAFF 3S 10×42 is designed with a lightweight and compact profile, making it convenient to carry wherever you go. I think the Prostaff 7 models are quite good, I have a PS 7s 8x30 also, and they are a nice quality made binocular. While I wasn’t expecting perfection out of almost three decades old equipment, I saw all kinds of stuff and the view was still impressive. These Nikon Prostaff 3S 10x42 binoculars are ideal for general-purpose outdoor daytime use and robust enough to withstand the vagaries of the weather system while offering high quality viewing and affordability with it.
