My partner and I have been using these bags for quite some time now so I wanted to give my honest feedback on how it fares compared to other bags out there. The large capacity of the Jade also makes it a great pack to take on an overnight trip and ensures nothing you need gets left behind.

When I started planning my two-month trip, the most important thing for me was making sure I had a decent day pack or rucksack that I could use every day. From top-loaders to lumbar packs and everything in between, the Talon/Tempest Series accommodates the needs of hikers, bikers and more.

But if your intended usage is more on the "average" side of activities, this pack is a solid choice. A few of our top-rated bags we've been testing for several years now, but all models went through a minimum of several months of regular use and intense testing. We tested each of these daypacks over several months (some of them for several years now) using our side-by-side comparison process. They're quite pleasant to wear against your skin on a warm day and do a solid job of flexing with you as you move.

The shoulder harness and hip belt are made with BioStretch materials, die cut EVA foam and stretch fabrics so they flex and move with your body for un-restricted movement when scrambling, climbing and trekking. They'll help keep the bag from shifting around on your back, but they don't transfer any of the load off of your shoulders. While I briefly spoke about this earlier, I don’t think I fully explained how important this when you’re hiking. The Cotopaxi Batac 16L, Cotopaxi Luzon, and REI Flash 18 are all unisex bags that are versatile across activities but in slightly differing ways.It depends entirely on the height of the user, so be careful if you’re on the taller end of the recommended spectrum. This uber light load carrier provides fantastic comfort and ventilation thanks to the adjustable AirScape back panel and BioStretch harness.

Founded in California in 1974, Osprey packs are worn on the highest mountains to the remotest islands and everywhere in between. This allows you to safely stash your trekking poles away when they are no longer required without having to remove the pack or pester a mate to do it for you. The Osprey Tempest 20 is a reasonably lightweight daypack with some great features for light day hikes and commuting.The Osprey Sirrus and Tempest, and Gregory Jade are the packs we tested that have an adjustable torso length — though even those have limits. Although slightly expensive for a light day pack, the Tempest 20 presents serious value for money with the amount it can do.

The Osprey still has lightly padded shoulder straps and two extra pockets, but the Ultra-Sil has cut out those features and even removed the zipper pulls. As we mentioned previously, the Tempest 20 will either be very comfortable, or not very comfortable at all.
