The Negroni is a traditional bitter cocktail, and you can swap out the gin for rum for a fruity take on this classic. This is common practice in the brandy/cognac industry, referred to as “dosage,” which is why it’s been part of the majority of Plantation’s rum products from the beginning. Earlier this week I wrote about one of my favorite liquors (if not my absolute favorite) in the world: plantation pineapple rum.Their rum is unique in the sense that it is made using traditional methods and aged in oak barrels, giving it a distinct flavor profile that is unlike any other rum.

In that post, I wrote about using the rum as a unique negroni variation, but for the average person, the most likely use case for this rum would be in a Pineapple daiquiri – also known as a Stiggins daiquiri. It’s made with dark rum, unsweetened pineapple juice, ginger beer, lime juice, pineapple, and coconut liqueur. One of the few Plantation rums with an age statement on the label, this might be considered the flagship of Plantation’s “signature blends” lineup, and is one of the brands they’ve been offering longest. You can even find newspaper advertisements from the 18th and 19th centuries advertising pineapple-distilled rum.

Pineapple juice is a versatile ingredient with various alcohols like rum, vodka, tequila, gin, and coconut.
