About this deal

Both the insert and the slipcover feature the same artwork that has caused gnashing of teeth on some corners of the internet, but it’s worth pointing out that it’s based on the cover for the Official Poster Magazine from 1982.

No idea why the both of you complain about certain new release threads but as I've already said don't expect me to stop posting threads about films I find interesting.s horror classic Poltergeist has been remastered in 4k and will release on Ultra HD Blu-ray on September 20, 2022. You won't particularly want to see it here, either, or be overly impressed by it - but the fact that you can now see it quite plainly is testament to how clean and clear this print has been made.

Directed by Hooper and written by Spielberg, Michael Grais, and Mark Victor, the iconic film sees a suburban couple named Steve and Diane Freeling, played by Craig T. In fact, the story begins with an uncomfortable conversation about death after the family pet bird dies. The DE is available separately on Blu-ray, and obviously the Theatrical Cut Blu-ray was included in the original 4-Movie Collection from last year. There’s no question that he was an active producer, too, and his guiding hand was definitely involved behind the scenes, especially during post-production. Arriving almost a full decade and a half after its original Blu-ray Digibook edition (which was later repurposed in plain keepcase packaging), Warner Bros. The rest of the footage is as sharp and detailed as the anamorphic lenses would allow, with just a trace of softness around the edges of some shots, and the usual barrel distortion that’s really noticeable during lateral pans. The specular highlights supply a crisp, radiant sparkle along metallic surfaces and a tighter, more vivid glow around the ghostly figures and the intensely bright light from the other side while still allowing better clarity of the finer details in the hottest spots.

Several scenes are softer and blurrier than others, but much of that is inherent to the original stylized cinematography while the visual and practical effects hold up extraordinarily well despite still looking pretty dated. This HDR grade doesn’t simply provide prettier pictures; it noticeably enhances the experience of watching the film. There are still a few that haven’t, like the reflection in the toaster when the crew members swapped chairs offscreen for the table gag, but the most prominent ones are now gone. Editor’s Note: It appears that the UK version of this set MAY be a 5-disc set, which includes the Blu-rays of The Director’s Edition and the Theatrical Cut.

Here’s a seemingly simple three-word phrase, but it’s one that’s fraught with peril: “Tobe Hooper’s Poltergeist. And of course, the studio has just officially set Joel Schumacher’s The Lost Boys (1987) for release on 4K Ultra HD and Digital on 9/20 as well. When the 80's made commercialism and overkill part of the fabric of existence, the spooky haunted house concept just had to follow suite. Clever casting, particularly with Heather O'Rourke as Carol Anne, meant that the audience has a grounding in reality: the family unit is succinct and believable, and as such, once the horror begins, we care about them and their plight.
