About this deal

Chris Smith has wanted to be an author ever since he was eight and won a competition by writing a story about a baby dinosaur who loved biscuits. Een boek gevuld met zinnen zoals "With a voice colder than a penguin's posterior", dat zou ik met plezier lezen zelfs als het verhaal stukken slechter was dan dit. But the devious Lilith Delamere has trapped him inside a nightmare and Maya and the mysterious Dream Bandits must find a way to rescue him before it's too late! Food, unicorns, some big giant fluffy hamsters, a big block of cheese, a flock of cute sheep to transport me to places.

I laughed, I snickered, I used my imagination (unlike what the kids say, adults can have imagination), I cheered. The hilarious voice of Greg and Chris comes through throughout and the idea of an adventure within a dream, a hospital heist and Dream Bandits will really set this book apart from anything else in the market. What he did not plan was for his villainous boss of Somnia Incorporated, Lilith Delamere, to trap him in a nightmare from which he cannot escape. Because falling asleep is her only chance to save her dad, Professor Dexter, from the deceitful villain Lilith Delamere, who has trapped the Professor inside of a nightmare.

In amongst the madness there are subtle nods to facing up to fear, tackling things head on and putting demons to bed. His name is Teddy Flamewood and he and his sister are there to help Maya use her dreaming skills to put things right. Chris worked for many years as a newsreader and presenter on radio stations including Xfm and BBC Radio 1.When Maya’s dad, the inventor an innovative dream machine becomes trapped in a dream at the hands of the evil CEO of Insomnia, Inc. Or as in my case, in the library for book club – as it has left me with a plethora of activity ideas. The concept of exploring people's dreams was very fun to read about and the characters were realistic and likeable. Radio 1 broadcasters and bestselling authors of KID NORMAL - Greg James and Chris Smith - are back with a mind-bending adventure you won't want to wake up from .

Together they become The Dream Bandits and put together an ingenious and totally bonkers plan to save their parents. My favourite character was Maya because she suspected the evil boss lilith from the start even though no-one else did.The plot is fast-paced, has comic-style fonts which will encourage reading aloud, as well as a clever narrative style which enables the authors to befriend and talk directly to their reader. They’re perfect to deepen children’s understanding of the story and develop a variety of key literacy skills. It was so much fun and had me beaming throughout at the bonkers ideas that are pored into each chapter. In this wholly-unique mystery adventure for middle graders, Maya and her friends Teddy and Bea battle General Pheare, his slapstick security team and a sleep-deprived CEO who is desperate to end dreaming forever.

After having the weirdest dream, she is desperate to get back to sleep to dream about the boy who seems to have information on her father’s accident.

Maya’s dad, eccentric scientist Professor Dexter, is trapped in his own dream by the cunning, unpleasant Lilith Delamere. It tells the story of 12 year old Maya who, unlike most other children her age, actually wants to go to bed early. So many cracking lines of dialogue that had me chuckling away and of course an epic classic Doctor Who concept thrown into the mix. I loved the illustrations scattered throughout the book and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for something fun, heartwarming and full of adventure.
