Her other books include Room on the Broom, Stick Man and Zog, illustrated by Axel Scheffler, The Hospital Dog, illustrated by Sara Ogilvie and the hugely successful What the Ladybird Heard adventures, illustrated by Lydia Monks.

After you’ve made the craft together, say the lines of the character using a silly voice as you use each of the stick puppets, modelling how to use expression. Stick man is a cute little twig and he lives at home in the family tree with his Stick Lady Love and three stick children.

But Stick Man suddenly finds himself involved in a game of Pooh sticks, used as part of a swan's nest and then atop a sandcastle as a mast, complete with flag attached! Donaldson’s rhymes bound along, like vintage Dr Seuss, while Scheffler’s slyly witty illustrations are a pleasure. A lovely lovely story with cute pictures will make you fall in love with StickMan who lives in the family tree with his Stick Lady Love and their stick children three. A. As a child it was always autumn, because of the colourful crunchy leaves, but now I love spring best. A hub of ideas and inspiration for kids’ activities, learning, crafts, and tasty treats they can cook themselves.

You see everybody thinks he's just a stick and sticks are there for fetching, dropping in water, weaving into a nest, being a sandcastle mast or a sword, a pen or a bat. We're close to a huge number of local bus routes - it's probably easiest to use Transport for London's Journey Planner to find your swiftest route.

Stick Man, like so many of this duo's creations, was made for reading aloud, and is sure to amuse young audiences, even as it keeps them on the edge of their seats, wondering whether the eponymous Stick Man will get home in time for Christmas. Remember not to let young children anywhere near your craft knife, and use a suitable object underneath so you don’t scrape your table. This award-winning production, from the team behind Zog and Zog and The Flying Doctors features a trio of top actors and is packed full of puppetry, songs, live music and funky moves. No wonder some of the publicity for this book stated 'You'll read this book again and again' because I have purchased a copy for a little friend of mine and I just couldn't resist reading it once more - that's three times seeing as I said in my earlier review that I read it twice first time round! Challenge your children to practise their puppet show and perform it to the whole family on Christmas Day!

This story is very enjoyable as it demonstrates the various uses for sticks which in turn can encourage the children to suggest their own uses for sticks. He is chased by a dog who wants to use him to play 'fetch it', then he is used as a pooh stick by some children and a swan uses him for part of his nest. The book was adapted into a short animated film by Jeroen Jaspaert and Daniel Snaddon in 2015, featuring the voice talents of Martin Freeman, Sally Hawkins, Jennifer Saunders, Hugh Bonneville and Rob Brydon and produced by Magic Light Pictures, the production team responsible for the Oscar-nominated short films The Gruffalo and Room on the Broom. First of all, read through the whole of the Stick Man book, pick out scenes that your child can relate to, or that raise their interest – focus on these scenes to make as part of your puppet show.Beginning readers may need some help with higher level vocabulary ("deserted," "frolicking," etc), but should also enjoy this funny and adventurous tale.
