The most intriguing feature is the Alexa integration, which could prove to be the UL5A’s MVP alongside Dolby Vision. It’s fairly substantial round the back too - though since this is likely associated with its need to accommodate both a direct (rather than edge-based) LED lighting system and a Dolby Atmos-capable sound system, we’re not going to complain about it. We’d guess that this is a cheap panel with a cheap processor and the result is a picture that struggles to keep up with the source material at full resolution. The micro-dimming tech is also curiously applied, with Medium the best choice; nudging it up to High makes it look a tad worse. Dark scenes are invariably affected by the familiar low-contrast blue-grey mist effect, immediately denying them the natural, cinematic look they enjoy on the very best TVs.
The new UI is part of a tile/row interface– scroll up or down and there’s access to Sources, Settings or Live TV. There is synchronisation with Google’s digital assistant through the ‘Ok Google’ ecosystem that connects a compatible product to the TV. The premise is similar to Dolby Atmos in that it creates a hemisphere of sound that’s more lifelike and natural in its presentation. The blurring is not quite as bad as we drop down in resolution to watch an upscaled version of First Man in Full HD on Blu-ray.

It works, but we soon revert to more traditional methods once the novelty wears off and so don't deem the extra expense on the add-on as being particularly worthwhile.
