I was pleasantly surprised when my legs weren’t left feeling sticky; I didn’t need to use a perfect finish wipe, so I decided to save them for future use. No pots of boiling water, microwaves or clunky equipment, just a tidy little handheld unit that does it all for you. The hair on my head was unruly and frizzy, and I was constantly trying to tame it with mousse, an iron (flat irons weren’t a thing yet), or a helmet of hairspray.

The roll-on applicator makes it easy to apply the wax in a thin and even layer every time with no mess.Turning off my handset and peeling open the wipes, I smoothed over my legs leaving them glossy and moisturised, picking up any little pieces of pink wax left over, which there wasn’t a lot. When it did, it was uneven at first, but once the roll-on head completed a full rotation, the wax went on evenly and smoothly. Waxing used to mean one of two things – an expensive trip to the salon, or a wild experiment that could feature one or more of the following: a microwave, hot wax, an electric cauldron, hope, tears, and human sacrifice.

In my past home-waxing experiences, the applicator of the microwavable wax systems frequently jams and sticks as the wax starts to cool.

The instructions aren’t clear on whether you’re supposed to keep the unit plugged in while you apply the wax, so I kept it connected to ensure that the wax stayed warm. There are individual wax types for legs, arms, underarms and bikini line, with sensitive options also available to suit your every need. I peeled open my strips and had them near by ready, pressing the smooth roller of the handset against my shin as I moved downwards from knee to ankle. By the time I got to the second leg I waxed my legs in straight lines from one point all of the way back round and it was far quicker and efficient. During the winter, most of us occasionally skip shaving and cover up with opaque tights or cozy pants.

Veet’s new product is a self-heating wax system intended for home use, and boasts “salon wax results at home. I’ve tried at-home waxing in the past (the kind with a pot of wax and a Popsicle stick), but I ended up spilling it on my arm, resulting in a bald patch that lasted for weeks. This removes some of the oils on your skin that can interfere with the wax, and also helps open up your pores so the hair comes out much easier. Luckily these practices are something out of the past, thanks to devices such as the Easy Wax Electrical Roll-On Kit.I’d left my leg hair a few weeks to get it to just over 1cm and it was the ideal length to catch in the wax and come out easily. I have to admit I was nervous as anything about doing the first strip because my first and only experience of home waxing as a teen left me petrified, and since then I’ve only ever been waxed at a salon, but not very often as I mostly shave. From that point on I could hardly contain my excitement as I stuck, rubbed, whipped and stripped both of my lower legs. It is impossible to get it wrong, as the handset heats the wax and maintains it at the correct temperature, with a red light to show that it’s on and a melt time of just twenty minutes. The Veet Easy Wax promised to deliver salon results at home so we’ll see how this adult newbie gets on.To use the Easy Wax Roll-On Kit, you just have to put the wax refill into the device, plug it into the mains (so no expensive batteries) and leave it for about twenty minutes, until the wax has melted. You then take the provided fabric strip and push it down onto the wax, leave for a few seconds, before pulling it off in a fluid motion against the direction of hair growth. My legs feel amazing right now, they’re speckled red from the follicles being open, just like at a salon, but there’s not a hair in sight.
