When by some strange twist of fate, the clone before him didn’t take off his watch and thoroughly jams the machine.

Being the only clone around to do so, William begins to question his existence and sets out on a path to find answers and meaning beyond drinking his life away. William 790-6 (57th iteration) is a clone; one of the billions of clones that make up the population of Earth. This isn’t something I would pick up since you said it speaks to you and sticks with you in the end really have me thinking I may like reading this one. I can't really look in depth at the characters in this book as it was really only the one character many times, but I loved the choice of 'William' to be the clone.I was also surprised by this because I wasn’t expecting the amount of depth that was woven into a relatively short book. When I first read what this book is about, I tought: oh no, this story will be too upsetting, because I can't imagine a world, where I must live with 6 billion identical clones of myself in the same planet, I mean what happens, when someone comes to me and tells "go fuck yourself, boy"—it would surely take decades, to complete the task, not to mention, I'm a gentleman, and so am I, so I would invite myself for a romantic dinner before the sexual intercouse, imagine the restaurant bills. But as I started reading I realized this book lives quite happily in a genre I’ve long been obsessed with, Dystopian Sci-Fi. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Without giving away spoilers, one of the "occupants" in the mysterious windmill happens to be a woman.

The world is occupied by Williams, a clone race who identify each other by a designated number - on their 365th day on this planet, they are willingly executed and turned to slurry to feed their test tube replacements but our hapless hero William 790 isn't executed as planned so he goes back to his life and starts to see the things that those around him aren't capable of noticing. As 790’s life unexpectedly extends, he begins to truly look around himself and question his existence. He’s pretty accepting of this, himself, and all the other Wills until he passes his 1-year anniversary of life, when he’s supposed to get recycled.Yes, the big reveals won’t have the same impact but there will definitely be things the reader will miss, or will focus in on during later readings. Because that’s the scariest part this story in particular asks, what if we all just become unquestioning cattle? Maximization of profit is something all major corporations strive for, and a world of clones provides this in an interesting way. I was completely sucked into the story and 790’s plight, but similar to those classic books referenced earlier in my review, I am sad to say there isn’t a happy ending.
