About this deal

AdBlue®, a water/urea based operating fluid, is stored in a tank (like diesel fuel), however, unlike fuel it is not injected into the engine, but directly into a specially modified part of the vehicle’s exhaust. This begins a chemical reaction which removes the polluting oxides of nitrogen (NOx), converting them into harmless water and nitrogen in a process known as Selective Catalytic Reduction, or SCR for short. SCR is only applicable to diesel engines and the more economically you drive, typically, the less AdBlue® you will use.

Even with most manufacturing accreditations it is not mandatory (only recommended) for Adblue manufacturers to impartially test their products. That is why the most reputable suppliers choose to go the extra mile and differentiate themselves from the competition and give the extra proof that their product is not damaging to vehicle catalysts. So the potential problem is that your engine ECU may assume there is more fluid that there is in reality. This means it will go on dosing the fuel tank even if the tank is empty. The problems happen when it runs dry.

DEF is commonly used to describe a diesel exhaust fluid such as AdBlue®. DEF is also used to describe an aqueous urea solution scale for measuring diesel exhaust fluids such as AdBlue®. AdBlue® is a registered trademark of the VDA Verband der Automobilindustrie e.V. A series of warnings will be given via the driver information system, accompanied by advice/messages. Applications: all vehicles fitted with diesel engines using a Urea solution at 32.5% as a diesel exhaust fluid (AdBlue®).

Be aware you can also get the noise you describe from the Adblue pump. Mine often makes a noise for a few seconds after I get home and unload the boot. In an effort to reduce environmental pollution, the European Union has established certain rules about emissions from heavy and light goods vehicles. One method adopted by vehicle manufacturers to allow compliance is SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction), which chemically reduces NOx emissions using a urea additive in the exhaust flow.

Vehicles with a SCR system have a sensor that detects the presence of NOx, which triggers a spray of Adblue into the exhaust. Why is urea used rather than Ammonia as CO2 is just a waste product and it’s the ammonia doing the work?ISO 22241-1 quality requirements, which determine the quality characteristics of the diesel exhaust fluid to ensure the proper performance of the SCR system. This is the main officially approved international standard. Thanks for your replies. The car has done 200.000 KM and it has had the AdBlue tank/pump replaced and the new vented filler cap. I have confirmed by listening to the eolys box that the noise comes from there. Sometimes it comes from the boot and that is clearly the AdBlue pump I can hear, but I am certain it is not the AdBlue pump I'm hearing. This mixture gives the best freeze point for the fluid at approx -11’C in which both the urea and water freeze at the same time. This means that the AdBlue concentration will not change and become diluted or over concentrated based on the weather as the solution freezes and thaws. Why does it need to be pure?

How can Bellingham + Stanley help you measure DEF easily and effectively? Full specification testing is performed on a real time turnaround to allow for fast efficient movement of product without impacting the deliverability of these products for your clients to the supply chain. The full specification service provided includes the following parameters. Often rebranded ‘Automotive urea solution’ to eliminate the risk of prosecution by trading standards (as a mix of less than 31.8% urea cannot be labelled AdBlue). Victims of this weaker concentration may not be able to seek compensation under the Trades Description Act. The size of the AdBlue® tank fitted to your car will vary depending on which Volkswagen model you have, therefore the interval between top-ups will vary. In addition, many factors such as mileage, journey type, driving style and environmental conditions can influence how much AdBlue® is consumed. A passenger car can consume approximately 1.5 litres of AdBlue® every 620 miles (1.0–1.5 litres for the Passat and Passat Estate). The chart below details the AdBlue® tank size and location for all Volkswagen models that use SCR. How will I know if the system needs topping-up?

Merci d'avance! This cause possible about DTC p204f: AdBlue or Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is a solution of 32.5% Urea in de-ionised water. It is sprayed into the exhaust system of modern engines as part of a selective catalytic reduction system (SCR) to reduce NOx (nitrogen oxides) emissions from the exhaust that cause acid rain and lung problems. How is NOx made that Adblue removes? In the event of a negative result, perform the SCR pressure build-up test to verify that the pressure of 9 bars has been reached. If this test is conclusive, first clean the Adblue injector with hot water or replace it later. Manufacturers of Aqueous Urea Solutions (AUS) within the European Union are required to conform to ISO 22241-2 in respect of refractive index measurement. This norm dictates that the measurement temperature must be extremely stable (±0.02 °C) and the refractive index resolved to 5-decimal places. Bellingham + Stanley has produced a specific refractometer called the RFM990-AUS32 that meets this requirement. Continuous DEF Refractometer for Car Manufacturers ISO 22241-2 is the current used standard across Europe for AUS32 (chemical name for Adblue as Adblue is a trade name which is now the common usage term for the solution). The localised German Standard DIN70070 has now been largely superseded by its ISO 22241-2 counterpart in terms of limit thresholds. It is mandatory for new Adblue to be tested to the specification to be sold as ISO 22241-2 compliant. Some Adblue manufacturers may choose to perform all their testing in house, whilst others choose to use an independent lab to perform the analysis to prove the analysis is completely impartial. Analysis of each batch before sale ensures the quality of the Adblue meets the high quality standards of the ISO 22241-2 specification. Once sold, regular testing from bulk storage and vehicle tanks for common contaminants that may have happened after sale becomes critical, so measuring the urea content to confirm it has not been diluted, elemental analysis to detect presence of catalyst poisons and detection of fuel/oil in the sample are also important.
