About this deal

The sheep had made their way onto the hillside below, still pulling at the low bushes, only glancing up every now and then, as they always do. Strangefields Farm is notorious for its sinister history ever since serial killer Jackson Temples lured young women to the premises, and the girls never left alive. And alongside this is the archaeological site created when old bones are found on the site of the old farm where a new luxurious holiday park is being built. Throughout history the ‘walking dead’ have been a source of fear, especially in the medieval period, and this is backed up by archaeological evidence. The reanimated corpse appears to be a constant feature of folklore throughout many cultures, from Transylvanian vampires to Haitian zombies.

As always, the Devon countryside and the town of Tradmouth were both definite highlights of the novel and it was nice to feel that, at last, the long-running Wesley/Rachel storyline may finally have been resolved.Ellis’ mysteries always have a link to the past and her Author’s Note gives her readers details of the real life historical influences for this tale. I have read and liked several books from this series, and in general they are a good read, but sometimes there are also too many annoyances.

So there is the old case against which the new occurs, with the venue of Strangefields, where Temples had killed multiple girls, and the method of killing, as well as numerous individuals who had a connection to him, including his half sister. This is the first book by Kate Ellis that I have read and found it really interesting and intriguing.Eyam Museum in the village of Eyam in the Peak District, Derbyshire, has a special emphasis on the Plague as it struck Eyam.
