About this deal

A friend that she begins to trust, and with the desire to shed the ‘ache of loneliness’, she opens up to him. She has performed stand-up, been a regular guest on BBC comedy shows and even has her own podcast, Natalie Haynes Stands Up for the Classics and her sense of humor combined with extensive knowledge of the myths maks for a delighftul read with snarky, snappy dialogue (I love Hera berating Zeus) and sardonic charm that keeps the story emotionally buoyant even in the darkest moments. For a young man, Perseus has sailed to her rocky island, having got lost at sea on his way to complete a mission. Her second book, The Muse, set in a dual time-frame, during the Spanish Civil War and 30 years later in 1960s London, was published in 2016. Medusa is a woman wronged; her self-reliance and beauty result in scorn and objectification from the townsfolk.

One day a young man lands on the island as if blown off course, but armed with his sword, shield and winged sandals all kept covered on his boat. i enjoyed reading about the gods one-upping each other, how they use mortals to achieve their goals, and everything in between.SHORTLISTED FOR THE YOTO CARNEGIE MEDAL _______________ 'A beautiful and profound retelling' - Madeline Miller, author of The Song of Achilles and Circe 'Gives the serpent-headed monster of myth a powerful and haunting humanity' - Jennifer Saint, author of Ariadne and Elektra _______________ If I told you that I'd killed a man with a glance, would you wait to hear the rest? It was simply a compulsively readable story that sucked you in, making you curiously turn the pages, excited to find out what happened next. And I will whisper on the water that one must never fear the raised shield, the reflection caught in an office window, or the mirror in a bathroom.

Perseus and “Merina” (the name she uses with Perseus) share their stories and initially, Medusa is unaware of Perseus’s real intentions behind his journey to her island just as he is unaware of her true identity. From this point onward, it s obvious things will not end well, especially when Medusa’s sisters challenge her about her developing feelings for Perseus.I think the writing wasn’t bad either - just kind of insufferable at times - which feels crappy to say. It's been four years since Athena cursed Medusa, and she's an 18-year-old exiled on a rocky island on which she lives with her sisters and her dog. That, yes, Perseus plays a part, but it’s really about Medusa’s view of herself, which she gradually bolsters, to survive and move forward to enjoy her life.
