The Vango Icarus 500 DLX – the current model at least – is equipped with the 2nd generation TBS II system. The ground sheet rises up further than the previous version and at first we kept tripping up going in and out. We've had ours since 2012 and it caters for my wife and I, along with our three children with considerable ease.

The canvas is still in good condition, we've needed to make minor repairs to an internal zip and one of the rear elastic fixings. I thought that was a really strange thing to complain about when I read about it before purchase but it's actually quite annoying. Snapped tension bands, guy rope tighteners did not hold, leaks via side door, awning ripped from trim near clips, another clip had failed stitching, stitching incomplete around one of sleeping compartment doors.

This means it is relatively easy to carry, and does not take up a lot of precious boot space in the back of your car. We purchased the side awning to use as a kitchen area, leaving the front awning to use as dining/living room. Me and the wife love this tent it is very easy to put up and take down, looks good and is very roomy for just the two of us, we use campbeds with air beds bunge roped together to stop it slipping and there is loads of room in the bedroom for clothes, bags, and a small side table. This also allowed us to put our child to bed but have space between us and her without disturbing her with lighting or noise whilst we played cards.

I have used few time this tent for family ( 2 Adults and 3 kids)camping holiday, it is good size tent and well designed. One of the poles developed a small crack after about a year but we just wrapped some duct tape around it and never had another issue. Overall we have been very happy with this tent and are considering on purchasing a Air beam one just so I can go camping for the weekend on my own with our child (6yrs old) without the struggle of trying to get a poled tent up alone. The only criticism I could say was the poles were a little week and over the years we owned it they ended up splitting. Tent had a small tear on outer tent where you use a peg I have tried telling Black's this could be resolved with a patch I am going back on holiday next week and they couldn't guarantee me having same tent by then. For optimum comfort, whack a tent carpet in the living area and line the sleeping area with blankets before lying sleeping mats on the top. Effective venting and a breathable inner avoid stuffiness inside, and 'comfort colours' (darker over the bedroom) mean there's no rush to get out of an overheating tent on bright mornings. They used it for the first time recently and loved it so I am sure it will see a good few more camping trips yet. One thing I keep seeing in reviews of this tent is that it's a great weekend tent or short stay tent?
