The show has always been entertaining in any format, but it’s a real treat to watch the show looking so fresh. Daniel, that would be great, but “Enough Rope” has been out of public circulation for decades, available for viewing only during occasional special screenings by the UCLA Film and Television Archives (last showing was April 2021). Fellow Husbands star Ben Gazzara, though he doesn’t appear in front of the camera, directed the episodes “A Friend in Deed” and “Troubled Waters. Each episode of Columbo is essentially a feature-length film, and for this release, there'll be commentary tracks for each episode, archival interviews, and feature contributions from Columbo experts Mark Dawidziak and Amanda Reyes. The reboot of the show in the late 80’s/early 90’s is only worth perhaps worth watching (for one episode only) to see how bad they are: terrible, generic, trashy TV, with laboured attempts at charm - and as much as I love him, Falk just goes through the motions.I think Shatner is a better villain in the latter-day one where he plays Rush Limbaugh than the classic '70's one where he plays William Shatner. encoded with MPEG-4 AVC and granted a 1080p transfer, Columbo: Seasons 1-7 arrives on Blu-ray courtesy of Kino Lorber. Thank you Kino Lorber and Columbophile and even if it’s in the 300 range the inclusion of special features makes it still a must have for me at least, in fact I’d expect it to be in that ballpark. Hopefully, while we are waiting for the remaining episodes to arrive, Banacek and McCloud are being considered for similar releases.

This new release is sourced from brand new new 4K transfers of the original first generation negatives. It's worth noting that this box set also includes the 1968 NBC TV movie, Prescription: Murder, which was adapted from the Columbo stage play, and the 1971 Columbo pilot "Ransom for a Dead Man" that helped greenlight the series.If you've never watched Columbo, then you've missed out on an incredibly fascinating series of detective stories that took a novel approach to the whodunnit formula.
