About this deal

I was so gripped by the voice of your heroine and the tale she told, I would spend much of each day following an evening’s read just bringing it all back to life in my head and trying to really feel the tragedy, horror, and sadness of the situation. The most confusing aspect of the book remains Cleave's incessant harping on class-conflict -- a surprisingly old-fashioned focus (at least in its artless presentation here).

As Renata grows more deeply embedded in the royal court, she uncovers a secret that could change the fate of the entire kingdom - and end the war that has cost her everything. Even allowing for the constraints of time and storyline(s), I was surprised and did not come away with the…. The entire time I thought I was reading some middle schooler's attempt to be a dark and gruesome author. The narrator’s feeling for husband and son are simply props in a series of scenes written for a bad actress.

I think you showed her little mercy by dumping her into the lives of a broken and predatory couple like Jasper and Petra.

The first one is a good idea -- new information about 'May Day' comes to light -- but what he does with it (the plan is for Jasper and Petra to get it published in their newspaper) is just ridiculous. I will admit to finding the first part of the book slightly slow, however, once the main storyline got going I found it almost impossible to put down.

Incendiary isn't as ludicrous a performance as Olivia Joules -- it actually aspires to satire, whereas Ms.

As a memory thief, the rarest and most feared of the magical Moria, she was used to carry out the King’s Wrath, a siege that resulted in the deaths of thousands of her own people. Now Renata is one of the Whispers, rebel spies working against the crown and helping the remaining Moria escape the kingdom bent on their destruction. Quickly, we change routes and enter the lion's mouth itself after major happenings in the first 1/4 of the book. i read and loved little bee (chris cleave's 2008 novel) and i have been an ardent and faithful word-of-mouther for the last year, pushing it onto the bookshelves of anyone who will hear me out.Little Bee caused me to look inwards and see a more practical thing that I could offer, something that could truly be life changing for someone. Córdova’s epic and imaginative tale sees a memory thief going up against a monarchy hell-bent on the destruction of her people.

I, like some others on here have never been to leave a comment on an Author’s page before – in all my 59 years of reading.Except when the author tries REALLY REALLY hard to get you to feel that by employing all kinds of tricks. She tries to make a go of life afterwards, but while she never explicitly asks the question, it's embedded in every word: how does one regain one's own sanity when the entire world has gone crazy? This was the time of the train bombings in Madrid, and the snickering torturers at the Abu Ghraib prison.
