The DDJ SP1 wonderfully complements tools like the DJM-900SRT, but it could also perform brilliantly with a wide selection of alternative Serato DJ controllers.

Accurate loops, scratches and reverses can be made through the use of Slip Mode when a DJ controller or CD player is connected. Pioneer seems to have something for everyone in its collection of powerful controllers and add-on tools. And, if you subscribe to the Creative plan, use Cloud Library Sync for seamless library management across multiple devices, and easily make custom versions of tracks in Edit mode. The rubber pads and buttons are robust and durable, while the aluminum top plate gives the controller a premium look that will look good in any set-up. As well as the wide range of hands-on controls, the SP1 also includes 30 premium-grade FX curated by iZotope.A single fader in the central part of the controller handles the volume, while knobs on both sides control FX parameters. The convenient location of the slider enables quick volume adjustment during finger drum performances. An Auto Loop encoder and push button gives you the ability to loop sections live, ideal for creating drops and switch ups in your performances. Auto Loop on the pads works the same as Auto Loop with the push encoder, except that you have 8 different loop values at your fingertips with the pads, and the Parameter arrows cycle through loop lengths. With DDJ-SP1’s Serato Video enabled, you get to manipulate videos with transitions, visual FX, and various other functions, such as your own images, text, and graphics. The DDJ-SP1 can also be used with a CDJ-2000 NXS2 or XDJ-RX2 to maximise the use of extra cue points on the new RekordBox 4 software. There are several actions that could trigger this block including submitting a certain word or phrase, a SQL command or malformed data. The SP1 features a wide range of dynamic performance controls, allowing for truly expressive hands-on performance. After loading a video, press Shift + Auto Loop push encoder to switch a deck to Serato Video control mode. If there is something to nitpick about the DDJ-SP1 is that it could have used more options to manipulate effects instead of just a single volume fader, though it assumes you’re already using a DJ mixer that has EQs and perhaps other FX onboard such as filters and modulation effects like in Pioneer DJ’s DJM mixer range. Performance Pads – there are 16 durable, LED lit, rubber Performance Pads that are allocated to 7 modes: Roll, Sample, Hot Cue, Slicer, Hot Loop, Manual Loop and Auto Loop. Once you exit Serato Video control mode by pressing Shift + Auto Loop push encoder again, Serato Video will continue to operate until you disable it in Setup, but you will regain use of the audio effects controls.If you don’t already have Serato Video activated, the DDJ-SP1 includes a license, so you can download and activate it. A "Sampler Velocity" function determines the output volume of the sample based on how hard the pads are struck. Shift + Load Prepare scrolls through the special areas of the browser: Files, Browse, Prepare, and History.
